I think these surgeons get paid by the core sample.

I'm starting OnlyNaNs where I livestream a 2.5 hour EEG analysis, only for it to end in a gigabyte of Matlab not-a-number arrays.

Very sad to hear this. Susannah and I had neighbouring offices when I joined the department at Oxford. She was very kind and as sharp as a tack. Somewhere I still have the lovely hand-made stimuli she created for a haptic experiment. A lovely colleague.

<TMS best practices>

Hi folks,

Could you please point me to the most up-to-date consensus paper you're aware of relating to TMS safety? Number of pulses / intensities / frequencies / other parameters etc.

I want to take as wide a look at the literature as possible.

Please repost for visibility!

LECTURER jobs? In this economy?! If I didn’t already have a wonderful position, this is where I would be applying. Department seems filled to the brim with lovely people who do cool things (including, but not limited to, @aidanhorner.bsky.social and @alexandrapike.bsky.social).

That's only a hierarchy because it's drawn that way. If information is flowing up and down and across, it's not very hierarchical.

Sounds a bit like The Emperor's New Mind. A really good intro to quantum stuff, but a bit handwavy about what it means for the mind.

I would 100% go back to an RA position if I could take the pay cut! Imagine just being able to work on one thing, and not have to go to many meetings or sort through emails or mark essays. Sounds like bliss!

People always ask me : β€œCristi, how do you manage parenting a baby while going up for tenure?”

It’s easy. The secret is *flow-based-scheduling*. Here are its three core strategies for new academic parents:

Sleep when the baby sleeps
Cry when the baby cries
Publish when the baby publishes
