- Strict athlete codes of conduct that move beyond legal threshold & include hate & harassment

- Sexual violence prevention training aimed at coaching staff AND parents - not just athletes

- Mandatory bystander intervention training

there are a lot of places this article could have gone, and I think the author did a good job sticking to a pretty unassailable position on patriarchal subordination, but I also think a lot of this is also connected to an insidious kind of resentment-fueled revenge politics of rape...

Knowing that no one who has ever raped or abused me (or any of the people I know) will ever face legal consequences for it, and having to watch the high-profile reification of the carceral system as a credible means of “justice” every couple years, is legitimately mentally obliterating.

I'm sorry but if you call the cops on teenagers being noisy on the playground after dark you can't also be shocked when they are exploited and radicalized in online spaces where there are no caring adults looking out for their best interests.

I believe one of the most effective things non-caregiver adults can do to prevent teens from getting exploited by extremists & other bad actors online, is to go out of our way to make neighbourhoods safer & more welcome places for kids to exist freely. Even when it is irritating/exasperating for us.

I keep coming across takes on social media about how women shouldn't wear bikinis around children unless they're the super high waist ones that show only a narrow strip of midsection, and I swear, these people are in the middle of a speedrun towards baggy t-shirts over swimsuits fundamentalism.

III. SUMMARY OF PROBABLE CAUSE 4. Guy Edward Bartkus (“BARTKUS") drove a car containing an explosive device to a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, on May 17, 2025. BARTKUS detonated the bomb, resulting in BARTKUS’s death, injuries to numerous victims, the destruction of the fertility clinic’s building, and damage to surrounding buildings and areas. 1/ Something I haven't seen reported on in the extremism beat yet: Last week, at least one US court began grossly mischaracterizating violent attack planners with no connection to abortion politics as "anti-pro-life," despite no targeting of the pro-life movement.

Something I learned growing up evangelical is that it's impossible to ever be good enough that authoritarians don't want to hurt you. I sure tried. It only backfired in awful ways.

Following the bombing of the IVF clinic several outlets and individuals have been writting about how the bombing is nihilistic in nature however that is not the case.
Nihilistic violent extremism is not to be used as a replacement for "salad bars" or the shifts we are seeing in the VE landscape.

This trial has been harrowing to follow. I'm so glad she got a big settlement from Hockey Canada a few years ago because it will take thousands and thousands of dollars of therapy to recover from being cross-examined by 5 different lawyers while the country scrutinizes every word and detail.
