03.11.2025 01:37 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Check out our new insect decline paper. By analysing 36 yrs of German ground beetle distribution data, we show:
- ~80% of species have declined, with significant declines for >50%.
- The decline was similar across species traits and threatened status.

Good question, but we didn't test the responsible driver.
02.11.2025 21:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0โSince ground beetles are key predators in many natural and agricultural ecosystems that play an important role in pest control and the food chain, their decline should raise concerns.โ

03.09.2025 17:36 โ ๐ 39 ๐ 46 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 2The defensive function of mutualistic ants for the Reverdin's Blue butterfly against two groups of parasitoids (tachinid flies and mermithid nematodes) differs among ant species, and this is affected by the number of precipitation days in the larval period of the butterfly. Camponotus japonicus is the most effective against flies, while Lasius japonicus against nematodes. The effect of rainfall is negative for fly parasitism but positive for nematode parasitism. Note that darker blue circles in the triangle indicate lower AIC values.
