Just started watching #bbcqt with a hollow laugh at the idea of an 'immigration special'. They've all been immigration 'specials' since around 2011. This is the fulfilment of the BBC's own agenda for over a decade. How proud they must be.

Yes, and it's being used so badly. It's as if No 10 is run by people stuck in a 1990s satire.

omg, and more so to it going unchallenged. What a terrible programme!

I wonder if it's time to retire the role of "political editor" altogether

Return most of the coverage to the Economics Editor, the Health Editor, the Home Affairs team & so on.

Leave the "who-said-what-to-whom" & "what-does-it-mean-for-the-polls" to others. The BBC doesn't need to foreground this.

'We wouldn't have been able to strike any trade deals if it hadn't been for brexit' - we wouldn't have HAD to, you asinine Tory fool. What fitting end to a particularly stupid episode of #Newsnight

It's incredible, isn't it. What is wrong with these ridiculous journalists? Is that that they're on 6-figure salaries and having to pay more tax?

01.12.2025 22:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It's not "We" who are "talking about Rachel Reeves and her errors". It's YOU who are trying to get us to do that, #Newsnight.

I did. Me. I confess. I voted for a Party that would, I hoped, raise 450,000 children out of poverty. #Newsnight

Chris Mason feels misled. He wishes he could trust politicians. I know the feeling. I wish I could trust #bbcnews.

Embassy No 1s, it would have been for me. (Then Rothmans. Then Silk Cut. Then Camel Lights. Then patches. Then Camel Lights again. Then patches again. etc.)

The men braying in the House of Commons when a woman speaks is a very ugly sound. #budget #pmqs

I'm sure BBC staff will be reassured that there is a 'metric' in place to assess their plummeting morale: an annual staff survey. And what's more, the Chair wil also "speak" to some of them. #bbc

Don't know which is more fanciful: Clive Lewis stepping down for Andy Burnham; Burnham winning the seat; or Burnham proving to be a saviour given that he can't hold a consistent line in a 2-minute i/view. Not that I am not longing to vote for for a new Labour leader, but Burnham is not the answer.

I agree. And its implications are dangerous. This policy legitimises the dehumanisation you mentioned above, and opens the door to ratcheting it up – and dehumanisation in the 1930s was a process. It's pernicious.

Same. I've been tribally Labour since '79. Now, though I see the pressures on Labour in govt, I'm struggling to understand wtf is going on in Downing St - or, more precisely, how to stop it.

Same. I first voted in 1979 & joined in 1981. While I've had issues with the PLP, I've been tribally loyal because of a sense of belonging at grassroots. Now, although I can see the pressures on Gvt, including BBC bias that beggars belief, I'm struggling to understand wtf is going on in Downing St.

Teenage pianist S's deeply-felt lyrics to help get the rhythm of a jazz piece. Other lyrics will involve Donald Trump, climate change, having to fill the dishwasher and fold her clothes. (I can't reveal her 1st name as that's apparently 'so cringe'.)

Well that was peculiar - an entire #newsnight based around a leadership challenge that hasn’t happened, with 3 panellists who couldn’t be more peripheral - and 1 enormous elephant sitting in the room.

The Cameron govt is getting off lightly (in general). As part of their assault on the BBC I think they replaced the Trust with the Board? Cameron/Osborne are getting an easy ride beause Johnson's destructiveness was so garish, but they did huge damage.

Yes. But while i want this Govt to use its influence to remove Gibb [and his people], I don't understand the mechanisms by which it can do so. And ironically, what's really needed is the removal OF governmental ability to wield influence on the BBC, which Cameron intensified.

Exactly. This isn't caring about children. And Starmer was on R3 talking about his love of music last week. The ivewer asked if he was going to give the Β£250k needed to widen children's participation in music. I suspect this is it: demanding more 'enrichment' from teachers with nothing left to give.
