If you like coconut dahl for the South Indian influence, add some curry leaves to the tarka. Start with 5, move up to 10.

If you follow my recipe, when the lentils are tender, add coconut milk, try half a can at first. Keep on the heat, but don't it boil or it will curdle l. Continue to cook for a further 10-15 minutes until it has thickened. Cook the tarka from the time you add coconut milk, then add, mix.
