The face, beak, and scrunched-up curved neck of a great blue heron takes up most of the frame of this photo. Just a bit of its rounded back and wing feathers are visible in the bottom left corner. Its neck is a light tan-brown color, its face is white with a wide band of navy blue running from above its eye to the back of its head, and its beak is mostly yellow. Its beak is also streaked with dried blood from a mole it dug up and ate. Its eyes are bright yellow.
