I didn’t take pictures because it was an art exhibit and I’m not a jerk, but here’s a piece that’s very much of the zeitgeist that I saw along Cicero Ave by Penny Pinch, a Chicago street artist who had a piece in the show.

In the theme of Chicago Cryptids, there was a nice 3D piece of mothman having a smoke outside a bar, a striding anthropomorphic hot dog titled “Big Foot-Long”, a Piasa Bird soaring over rooftops and a number of other creative works featuring yetis, hodags, etc. I’m glad I dragged myself out.

So I went to this tonight. The show was in a room at the back of a rather cool comic shop called Howling Pages in Portage Park. The comic shop has a lot of small press and self published comics and is worth checking out if you’re in the area. The show itself was small but had some nice pieces.

Watched The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. The bit where the massive Lego setup has all been taken down and you see the basement with all the empty table space is supposed to be sad, and it is, but all I could think was “Wow, they have space for an amazing model railroad setup”

Franksville, Harlem & Addison in Chicago IL. I should probably visit this place at some point after seeing their epic hot dog locomotive sign for decades. I think the sign looks better in daylight when it’s unlit and the engineer’s face doesn’t have quite as much of a lunar white pallor.
