Fair. They’re not life changing regardless and I can’t say I’d think of them terribly often if they were available year round (which admittedly they are at some bakeries on the northwest side).

Yeah, they’re basically jelly donuts, and admittedly a big part of the appeal is the flavors you find at Polish bakeries and not at, say, Jewel. Rose jam, for instance (Data’s favorite) or advocaat (mine). :)

It’s Fat Tuesday, which means that in the part of the country I live in, supermarkets are calling the same jelly donuts they sell year round “pączki”.

I was curious how many people would recognize that. :)

Stopped at a candy store just now to get chocolates to go in stockings for a much delayed Christmas gathering. The store was slammed and I thought “wow, a lot of people taking advantage of th Presidents Day sale”, then felt stupid when I I noticed all the love red and pink hearts everywhere.

Near the start of the subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 there was an episode of This American Life called “The Giant Pool of Money” that made the point that there’s a lot more money looking for high returns than there are sane places to invest that money and I think about that a lot lately.

It’s not an every time thing, but I can do Thai hot once in a while. It encourages mindful eating, because you really need to take your time and contemplate your life choices between mouthfuls.

I had a dental appointment this week, and this plush dragon was staring at me from a table next to the chair. I guess it’s for teaching kids to floss properly, but the human-like teeth give it real Ugly Sonic energy.
