After everything that has happened, how stupid do you have to be to put your trust in Russian promises?

Can’t believe the whole country has to suffer through the return of Dickensian childhood diseases because the worst, most ignorant attention-demanders decided other people’s expertise makes them feel bad

People that only view the defence of Ukraine as a proxy war are only speaking from the perspective of an invader, that says a lot about those people.

It's not even that it's too hard, it's that antizionism is actually an extremely powerful and popular presence within leftist and cultural spaces (despite their claims of being an abominably persecuted ideology) and they don't want to risk their social standing within the movement by challenging it.

Over 200 years later its still a mystery to clueless deniers

I was stunned when he unironically said that "Russia is fighting more humanely in Ukraine than the US did in Iraq". Even at its worst, the US wasn't flattening entire cities like Russia did in Mariupol nor was it intentionally bombing hospitals.

I wish the media had done a better job reporting on the Russian meatwave attacks. Even showing some of the horrible footage to the public might be warranted. They are a perfect illustration of the depraved inhumanity of the Russian military. One that doesn't even value the lives of its own soldiers.

The most vocal pro-Palestine political parties in my country lean towards supporting Russia when asked about the war in Ukraine. They'd blindly support anyone anti-US and anti-NATO.

I find these people obnoxious.

Social Democracy created public healthcare and housing.

Communism created mass graves.

The problem with a lot of pop leftism is it doesn't give the impression it wants to be part of a victorious bureaucracy, it gives the impression it wants to be part of a perpetually frustrated and powerless counterculture simmering in resentment in decaying flats.

a letter to the western left with frustration, from central eastern europe

"You say you hate empire, but you only ever mean one. You rage at U.S. hegemony while excusing Russian conquest. You romanticize β€œmultipolarity,” as if choosing a different empire were the same as dismantling one...

Donbas is today’s Sudetenland A real European peace plan would be one that reduces Putin’s strength at home or in Ukraine, forcing him to change his calculations.

An excellent post by @glandsbergis.bsky.social today. Well worth a read, particularly for the dumbfucks in the UK who support Putin.
After yesterday's bollocks, that includes Zarah Sultana.

"All struggles are one struggle" makes for great righteous fiction that feels real good, and terrible practical politics.

Press releases and reports - Who do Ukrainians sympathize with in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: the results of a telephone survey conducted on November 29-December 9, 2023

This survey of Ukrainians from two years ago showed that 69% lean towards Israel, 1% lean towards Palestine, and 18% sympathize with both. I don't see Ukrainian public opinion tilting towards Palestine anytime soon since a 2025 survey on the Israel-Iran conflict showed only 3% support for Iran.

Someone is gonna have to explain why someone's opinions on Israel and Palestine has fuckall to do with their opinion on Ukraine.

Palestine is not an abstract cause or moral crucible you dumbasses. Palestine and Ukraine are distinct causes with distinct contexts!

The biggest failure of the left is the game of purity politics. Not defending her, but expecting every last politician to be absolutely perfect leftists is part of why the US is under fascist rule

Let this moment be a wakeup call to stop taking some of the far-left seriously.

Mamdani isn't good enough for them. Nor is Rep. AOC. Nor is Sen. Sanders. No one is good enough for them.
