Not really. There weren't that many spinners in those days; I do remember a lot of eye-rolling. The one lady knit a Samoyed sweater; it was super-warm, and smelled bad when she washed it. I don't remember what the Afghan hound lady knit.

That book has a lot of great stuff in it. One could do Rhinebeck socks, with knitwear, leaves and apples.

Do add a heel turn. The pattern is based on a medieval sock, which is essentially a tube sock, which isn't a good enough fit for that much work. There is enough text to make socks for huge feet.
