It’s not simply doing this, or doing it without congressional approval, or doing it without explanation of risks, or doing it without declaration of war, or doing it on behalf of an ally mid-genocide. It’s the fickleness that suggests what’s to come.

Rule, war, death by his whim.

Biden’s ultimate legacy will be that he didn’t do a single goddamn thing to protect the people of the country from the rise of fascism. Pack the courts, force through a bunch of legislation, etc.

An affable, completely ineffectual President who set the stage for what we’re living through now.

They cut everything to the bone. People's kids are going hungry. National parks are under threat. All under the pretense of necessity. And then millions are spent on this? A party no one came to? Restoring every DOGE cut and employee line is my #1 demand for whatever elections come next.

Worth thinking about what this demonstrates: this president is not popular in the abstract and the things he does barely rate. It is only in the extremes that he can drum up support, and that matters a lot. No one is excited about the day-to-day existence of this regime.

The dangerous part is that it is the extremity, and obviously the cruelty, that galvanizes the very small hardcore base that makes up the core of this thing. And that’s something to continue to think about and (importantly given the assassinations) adapt to and overcome.

The majority of people do not want this and they do not want a worse world for themselves and their families, and every day these people only sell them cruelty, violence, and a diminished world. There’s no illusion of a positive vision.

To all the homies that may be headed out today: stay safe and hydrated!

And you know what the talking heads seem to rarely use 'violent' to describe? The systemic destruction of families through ICE detentions and deportations. Breaking a window is framed *primarily* as violence, but taking a grandparent away from their kids or sending someone to a work camp isn't.

This last week is a real demonstration of how capacious, yet flattened the word "violent" is in our political discourse. Political assassinations are obviously, clearly violent. But the same word has been used all week to describe protestors damaging objects--not people, objects.

What happened in Minnesota is a direct consequence of the violent way that Trump talks about his political opponents.
