"Everyone Drank Raw Milk!" No They Didn't
When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"
That's... usually not the case!
In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.
We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?

I am livid that my student who submitted a diversity F31 and received an outstanding score, near the top of the fundable range, was told to submit again.
Refusing to fund F31s from URMs while funding regular F31s from white/privileged students with worse scores is blatant discrimination.

Extinction is forever: de-extinction canβt save what we had | Aeon Ideas
Even if it works, genetic resuscitation would begin something new; it canβt restore what we lost. Extinction is forever
I donβt care what Colossal or Beth Shapiro are trying to sell you. Woolly mammoths are extinct and not coming back. De-extinction is an unethical vanity grift that cannot deliver on its promises.

A study projects how climate change will modify the areas suited for growing 30 major crops under 4 scenarios.
Half of global croplands could see a drop in suitable crops under 2C, with barley, wheat, soybean, lentil and potato being the most affected.

If you believe that gutting American science makes us great, stop taking your medication, stop going to National Parks, toss your phone in the toilet, turn off your TV, and heck, stop stop eating food, because you wouldnβt want to benefit from all that nasty public science you think is so wasteful.

Illustration of three individual Northern Flickers - heads, underwing colors, and tail pattern for the last bird. These intergrades (mixes between Red- and Yellow-shafted Flickers) are each unique. Top bird, a female, has a mostly gray head with a red nape chevron and orange underwing. Middle bird, a female, has a mostly tan head, red underwing, and no additional markings. Last bird, a male, has a face mostly like a standard Red-shafted male (gray head with a darker crown and red moustache) but a yellow-orange underwing and a tail that is half yellow-orange and half bright yellow.
#Woodpecker Wednesday! And Day 4 of #ArtAdventCalendar - this winter's cast of characters so far when it comes to the intergrade Northern Flickers that show up in my yard. One returning bird so far (seen since Feb 24) and two newbies. π¨πͺΆπ‘π§ͺ #ornithology - and see reply for more info
