It’s different these days. These are the kind of strong profiles that apply for PhD programs. The competition is fierce, leaving little or no space for candidate B to be accepted or even considered.

Although it may be easier for you to get into a PhD program during your time but it’s different now

I speak to myself and everyone from underrepresented backgrounds who has applied and are currently applying for this round of application. You will definitely get a YES and you will have the chance to pursue that dream of yours.

We have big dreams but we don’t have the necessary environment to nurture and pursue those dreams, we are now stuck in our environments without fulfilling our big dreams and reaching our heights.

Now it gets more interesting, the hopes of candidate B is dashed, low self esteem creeps in and they don’t believe in themselves anymore, thinking they are failures. This is the challenge most of us from underrepresented communities usually face during applications.
