i also think they just didn’t have any cards to play earlier in the year, and schumer gambled — correctly — that republicans wouldn’t be able to get it together on SNAP and ACA premiums once he accepted that both johnson and thune have surrendered themselves entirely to the white house

police refusal to act on stuff like this - stolen phones in central london, buried in a known location daily to be retrieved later - is really corrosive to any sense of public trust.

Workers earning minimum wages typically show stronger future careers, and state minimum wage policies do not significantly alter these relative trajectories, from Sari Pekkala Kerr, William R. Kerr, and Louis J. Maiden www.nber.org/papers/w34405

It's the clean air act/deleaded gas/lack of smoking. Millenials aged better/slower than the prior two gens, and the trend's continued for zoomers.

Oh and a lack of smoking. That one's huge. One of my siblings has so many wrinkles due to it while the other two of us have zilch.

deleaded gas/clean air act/etc. have made young people look a lot younger. Millenials were noticably younger looking than similarly aged Gen X/Boomers and trend's continued. (see: cast of Taxi/Cheers)

One thing this definitely impacts unconciously? Age gap dating discourse and norms.

But that's just variance. Everyone wants to know about average bias. Here it is. Polls in the last two weeks of the campaign overstated Democratic margins by 2.7 points across all offices—smaller than the 4.6-point overestimate in 2020 and 3.1 points in 2016. But that's a Dem bias 3 cycles in a row.

Resuming nuclear testing is a massive giveaway to China and Russia because we basically have the supercomputers to simulate them (look into why the DOE owns so many….) no and they don’t, so physical nuclear tests would give them a lot of data that they currently don’t have access to.

Somehow also leftists: But 84 year old Bernie is okay for uh reasons

These people have civilian jobs. It's one thing to mobilize them for an emergency or a legitimate war, another thing to send them to American cities to stand around and mill about. You're messing with people's careers to further a hostile and idiotic agenda.

A great piece from the 20th Anniversary issue of @prospect.org back in 2010, arguing that the rise of more rich progressive donors had not stopped Democrats from talking about inequality but HAD caused Democrats to trend left on environmental and social issues.

Biggest issue on the left in terms of the bubble: text-based mediums self-select in a specific group of people and leave out a looooooot of people.

I personally think this attack is landing because of the asylum backlog loophole, same as the hotels situation.

The cross border->apply for asylum->become eligible for benefits/work while waiting years for a decision was both a real policy problem and a political nightmare.

I missed the 'to access higher ed' part, his grandfather was one of the most famous architects/designers in the United States, his dad is a lawyer, his mom owns the restaurants he sells his oysters to - I'm pretty certain he could afford to go to college.

A lot of Pop Leftism is not actually leftism, it is Discontent at the Status Quo and a key lesson from this past decade is that you need more than just general discontent, because it can and will be channeled to reactionary causes.
