I think this gets forgotten in terms of the attempt the Democrats made for us to just move past things. Generally, Americans are actually pretty eager to move past stuff. I don't think many people actually thought that a majority of the country wanted more of that shit.

This website is very unusual in terms of having people who can think about implications down the line. The average person knows dating and hears kids are expensive and just assumes their wedded+kidded situation looks exactly the same only with less money.

It's not really about whether your subsidizing children, it's whether it impacts people in a way where they assume their financial situation will get substantially worse rather than offsets kicking in that will make it about equal

Outside of very fringe situations, they're not going to go back to not having kids for tax purposes. But this assumption that people are forward-thinking about what their tax burden is going to be, give me a break.

I think it's a mistake to heavily tax young people before they have kids, because people don't think about what their taxes are *going to* look like. If their taxes are lower, they'll feel wealthier, and they'll feel more equipped to have children. Once they've had kids you've got 'em by the nards.
