Law Centres: Poor relations At a time of historically high demand, law centres starved of funds have been closing their doors. Supply and demand are heading in opposite directions, reports Catherine Baksi.

"Legal aid is the stone that successive governments have left unturned when looking at alleviating poverty."

Last year, Law Centres saved the government an estimated £172 million. With sustainable funding, they could do a whole lot more.

Rumour has it that the Renters' Right Bill will be published next week, and also first reading. Then second reading after conference season and progressing onwards. So, could be done before the end of the year.

It was lovely to receive a card from colleagues at Cumbria Law Centre this week to celebrate a year since I was admitted as a solicitor.

'Ants are everywhere': Labour MP's tenants reveal state of flats Jas Athwal rents properties with black mould and ant infestations, the BBC discovers.

Oh dear. This is not good, particularly the apparent lack of licensing, poor conditions for tenants, & apparently a blanket ‘no DSS’ policy, which is unlawful. (The conflict of interest bit doesn’t really make sense, as would be LHA/UC paid by DWP, not HB from council)
