She's a great GoH too! Sadly I was still recovering from a horror case of food poisoning the year she was GoH at my local con, so I only got to go for one day.

Self-compassion can be a very difficult thing for far too many folks. I know my own AuDHD (and other issues) have made it super hard to manage, though I have been managing some over the last few years.

Viewing something difficult as a gift to your future self seems like an excellent trick!

The more I hear about it from friends that are parents, the more I feel kinda bad about some of the things I dragged one or more of my parents to when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper. :\

The Wiki article on the Colombian lesser black tarantula (Xenesthis immanis) is brief but does talk about this and has a link to an 1989 paper.

A quick search for 'spider pet frogs' also brought up multiple articles. It seems to be much more common than expected.

Yes. At least one species of large tarantula keeps and guards small frogs to eat the mites, ants and other much smaller (than the spider) critters that might damage or parasitise their eggs.
