NYT has lost its way when it comes to distinguishing between the opinions pieces and its reporting.

I often wonder how today’s ultra processed health foods - think protein bars or powder supplements for example - will fare in this type of analysis. So many people I know, who avoid UPF, add all this stuff to their diet. I can’t help but think it’s similar.…

Krugman's interview of Posen (7/19) was helpful to break down recession and inflation pressures. This Posen quote stuck: ..sure as shooting, there are real income shocks and a real supply shock to labor markets coming and potentially shortages of key inputs...that has to show up somewhere.

To BC's point, it's a good read about the U.S economy. But I would quibble with notions that price discrimination (alluded to just before that highlighted quote) is a problem. Perhaps, though I am no expert on airport-stuff, the issue is that the options over which to discriminate are too few?

This is really interesting. I wonder why the trend is present in young men but not women!

I agree - underestimating the taste for exerting influence, the need to dominate w a different story than Texas, and they are also underestimating the contractions in spending that are already everywhere to see. Those effects are not easily reversed.

fascinating that markets seems to still be assuming a less negative picture. One interpretation is that markets still believe Trump’s transactional approach means he’s willing to reverse course in ways other presidents were not. But some trends, once set in motion, are not so quick to reverse.

Or authorizing a foreign adversary to fire in US airbase? β€œTrump said he had given Iran permission to bomb a U.S. air base in Qatar in retaliation for the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear weapons program sites. β€œThey said, β€˜We’re going to shoot them. Is one o’clock OK?’ I said it’s fine,” Trump said.”

Why is this travesty getting so little media coverage? We can decry gutting healthcare and food assistance at the same time and also point out that massive funding for the police state comes at the expense of feeding and caring for the poor and elderly.

THIS should spur conversations in higher ed. Economic uncertainty, AI, market mismatch r possibilities (see Krugman's post), but the trend pre-dates these changes. Whatever the cause, human capital investment has value; I hope higher ed meets this moment with innovation to lower the investing cost

I am curious to check this out. It offers (maybe?) a promising way to break one form of bias in that we tend to invite from our networks. But, it could either not address or worsen other forms of bias (using only those who register with RePEc).
