A stark headline from the 'State of Nature' report for 2023 with declines since 1970. Sobering to think that the once biodiverse, nature-rich UK is now one of the worst for nature on the planet!
Snake on Golf Course - a serious case of misidentification! Several national & regional newspapers ran this story about a 'venomous snake', 3 to 5 feet long, slithering across Belton Woods Golf Course, Lincs on a hot day. Of course it is a harmless Grass Snake not an Adder.

Baby Great Spotted Woodpeckers are now visiting the feeders. They have their distinctive red caps on top of the head - and so are sometimes mistaken for the rather uncommon and much smaller Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. The male of the latter has a red cap!

4-spot Chaser Dragonfly compared with Broad-bodied Chaser. This is to follow-up my explanation about an earlier post! These are both females with 4-spot having a slimmer body and four brown marks on the wings..... So apologies for any earlier confusion!!
