They’ve totally given up trying to do what’s right, with some warped ideas they think might be popular.
The people they’re trying to appeal to wouldn’t support them under any circumstances, yet they’re alienating the people that wanted them to succeed.
Politically inept, clueless, and depressing.

This document is the product of a broken administration, motivated by cynicism, immune to human decency, with a weak-to-non-existent understanding of the policy area they wish to legislate in.

The hypocrisy of Reform going on TV to allege that certain groups are constantly over represented on TV is truly epic.

There is a key moral distinction between immigration policy on new arrivals, no matter how draconian, and on people who have already been granted status, on set conditions. It is about being a country that keeps its word. If we're not that, we might as well fucking give up now.

Detained people without lawyers are only given a few days' notice of the intention to send them to France. In this time they need to find a lawyer, who will then need to gather evidence and consider whether there is a claim. Of course court applications are being made only shortly before removal.

I’m no royalist but I respect public figures’ right to privacy so won’t comment on the speculation around individual cases. I am horrified that other doctors have chosen to do so.

Just 1.5 minutes, with minimal hesitation and repetition, and no deviation, of the exact opposite of what Reform has to say on people claiming asylum in this country. Good for BBC Westminster Hour to be making the space for these values - which are truly, really British.

Fascinating, and worrying, not just the exploitation of people's grief but what about the consent of the dead person having their identity uploaded and manipulated? What if one family member wants to do this and another strongly disagrees?

Deeply shocked by Israel’s deliberate killing of the Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif, his colleague Mohammed Qreiqeh and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa. Israel has now killed at least 186 journalists in this war.

Anas al-Sharif, the Al Jazeera journalist accused by the IDF of working for Hamas, was previously part of a Reuters group which won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage. I haven’t seen any accusations against the other reporters and cameramen who were killed with him.

Good piece from the editor-in-chief of @businessgreen.bsky.social.
It's odd how little environmental policy (whether good or bad) has featured in assessments of Labour's first year.
If we're serious about making climate a major issue, we can't then ignore it when assessing the government's record.

Ed Miliband has arguably been Labour's most effective minister.
That probably shouldn't be surprising: he had previous ministerial experience, a long record of engagement with his policy area, isn't micromanaged by Number 10 and doesn't seem fazed by hostile media.
Some lessons there, perhaps.

This is a complete mess. The government is promising new changes, new concessions, 90 minutes before MPs vote.
None of this is written down. The Bill we are voting on tonight is unamended.
This is an unacceptable way of making laws. Just pull the Bill.
