Last night I woke up my partner on the couch by cackling multiple times while watching this. Fucking fantastic work by @kaiserneko.bsky.social, the cast, and all y’all at @teamfourstar.bsky.social

Also, fuck Jadeite (we love you Blake Jennings)

Now mourning a world that never was. A world where Daniel Craig tromps up and down a set and explains with his cute little southern accent how Gonzo and Ratso conspired to murder Kermit but we learn in a third-act musical number featuring Bebe Neuwirth that Ms Piggy masterminded the whole scheme

An example of a different oddity I wonder about is HelloFresh et al. Using it in Vermont, the food is shipped from CT. How do food laws differ between state lines? Do the same even apply to shipped food ordered online vs the grocer downtown? Not sure. I do recognize that labels differ, and I wonder.

I often think about how online retail is having weird but subtle interactions with expectations we grew up with around safety and reliability, and this is a great example. People will just sell whatever if they’re not worried about how mad Walmart will be if they have to recall your product

Follow-up: video is a banger, and gives me everything I want. We cook with onions ALL THE TIME, so it’s nice to get a practical exploration of how we’ve been using them, as well as a more theory-based idea of why. My Dunning-Kruger’s eating goood today

I mean it’s a full turing-complete programming language with an extremely robust ecosystem and an incredible scientific/numeric programming set of libraries, so I’d say so

I haven’t used them much, but I’m led to understand that scipy and numpy are what folks reach for first these days

I’m not a python dev, but am confused by this take. The language seems fine, and a lot of cool scientific stuff is built on the ecosystem built around it.

I loved reading this list, and feel like I want to prioritize a lot of these films. In the mean time it’s important to remember that BIM is on the way

Remember:

- they DO NOT CARE about your arguments/rebuttals

- they DO NOT CARE about your dunks

- the person running the accounts was specifically hired to drive engagement BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY; it’s the algorithm they’re catering to

This is a game, and to them you are data to be manipulated.

I love ZZ! It’s definitely a bit of an adjustment after Zeta, especially since it picks up pretty close to the end of Zeta, but it might actually be my favorite? I love the kids and all of the villains are just so great.

It is morally wrong to want a computer to be sentient. If you owned a sentient thing, you would be a slaver. If you want sentient computers to exist, you just want to create a new kind of slavery. The ethics are as simple as that. Sorry if this offends

Thinking is a very different thing from an abstract procedure. Literally the only similarity I can think of between thought and a LLM is that some words describing the mechanisms for each have a β€˜neur’ prefix. If you can think of more similarities, I’d love to hear them

04.10.2025 01:24 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The formula can’t do or model anything. It’s an abstract concept. A series of mathematical steps you may follow to get a desired result. It only exists as an abstract concept. Does a bread recipe bake bread? It does not. You bake the bread by following the steps as written. So, too, is a LLM.

04.10.2025 01:24 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This is a great way to express this. It’s like asking if β€˜x = 2y + b’ can think. Of course it can’t, because it’s not even a concrete thing or an entity, or even a process. It’s a formula. Apply it to a y and a b, and you’ll get an x. Given many y and b values, you can make a chart. Thats it.

03.10.2025 15:55 β€” πŸ‘ 29    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

LLMs aren’t capable of introspection, though. They’re mathematical functions that don’t even exist without a prompt. No thoughts, motivation, lived experience, or ability to gain insight.

They produce sentences that sound like someone thought about them, and that’s the whole bit.
