In all seriousness, DO NOT try this.
I just think it’s ironic that Texas law theoretically (purely theoretically) allows you to resist excessive force.

Nothing like getting to the end of a really lovely book and discovery that there's a second book you didn't even know about *AND* it's available for immediate checkout

Just watched “Good Boy” and they had a little making-of segment after the credits and this is *exactly* how the whole movie works. The dog was not trained at all, just the family dog. But the director understood the Kuleshov effect and made it seem like the dog was being incredibly expressive

Since the launch of the 2nd #NoKings mobilization, the Trump regime has escalated their authoritarian agenda.
We won’t back down.
On Oct. 18, we’re telling this wannabe dictator: America belongs to us.

AI is not the problem. Like TV and social media before it, the problem is how we use it, which is determined by who controls it.
AI is not the problem. The billionaires and corporations are.

30.09.2025 23:34 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0But the book is like, "Nobody knew what lay south of Chicago..." and I'm like, dude--people knew what was there 1,000 years ago. The Romans administered a massive empire with a huge government across literally thousands of miles without even figuring out paper. People are good at figuring shit out.
26.09.2025 00:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Ferinstance, while the stored gasoline would eventually run out (or more likely, go bad first) it seems pretty likely that it would occur to someone, somewhere, that bio diesel was a thing, and then you'd have cars and trucks and generators, and once you've got electricity, you're halfway back.
26.09.2025 00:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0You could always hand-wave that there were "Terrible Wars that Scoured the Land" but we're not talking about nuclear annihilation or people forced to live on very limited resources bc there are zombies everywhere. It's the same exact world, just a whole lot fewer people.
26.09.2025 00:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Even if we go with the number 630, it would quickly grow from people coming in bc resources are no longer being produced, but cities would have massive stores of resources, and they would last a long time, given that the demand for (say) canned food would have dropped to .0001% of what it had been.
26.09.2025 00:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I did some math: if 99.99% of the DC metro area died in a matter of weeks, that would still leave 630 people--and that's ignoring the fact that there are (I assume) thousands of military and government people who would have special resources set aside for them for just such an eventuality.
26.09.2025 00:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0But if the only thing that happened was the reduction of the population by several orders of magnitude, I don't see civilization staying collapsed very long, or maybe even not even collapsing in the first place.
26.09.2025 00:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Okay, really enjoying this so far, BUT: I'm thinking something does't make sense--it's 20 years after 99.99% of humanity was wiped out by a plague, and there's no electricity, no internal combustion, etc.

This is, in the very best way, some fucked-up shit. Like, my face hurts a little from smiling but I’ve also been traumatized and may need therapy.
