An image with eight exposures of the Moon rising over English Bay and Vancouver, B.C. In the first (lower left) exposure of the Moon, it is in full eclipse, and with each successive exposure the Moon moves up and to the right (due mainly to Earth's rotation, but also due to the Moon's orbital motion relative to the Earth). From the third exposure onward, the Moon gradually emerges from the Earth's shadow, until it is fully revealed (if slightly shrouded by a thin cloud). The lights along the shoreline also shift slightly upward with each exposure. This might be the result of a rising tide lifting the pier on which I had set up my tripod - in which case this becomes an even more 'lunar' photo - but I suspect that the shift has a more mundane explanation (such as movement of the film or a slight movement of the camera each time I recocked the shutter).
I wasn't able to see last night's total lunar eclipse, so I've dug up an image that I took back in the late 1990s from a pier at Vancouver's Jericho Beach Park.
This is not a composite image, but rather eight individual exposures on a single frame of film* - so no room for error!

A view looking down a narrow lane in Minakami on a snowy winter's day. Tall stone foundations create a wall on our left; the blank side of a building stands on our right. The lane is deserted, but a rough track cleared in the snow on the ground tells of earlier foot traffic. Up ahead, more snow covers the rooftops of other buildings, and warm light glows in their windows. Beyond, snowy tree-covered mountains rise toward a dim, overcast sky. Snow continues to fall across the scene.

High-angle view of a snow-covered urban residential scene of the 1920s. Many rooftops, varying in shades of beige, cream, light brown, and muted yellows, are layered and angled. Snow sits heavily on all the rooftops, creating a smooth, even texture across them. Different coloured buildings are visible beneath the snow, showing various shades of red, tan, and muted green hues. Windows are visible on several buildings, and chimneys with a subtle reddish-brown colour peek out from beneath the snow. The varying angles create a sense of depth, like looking down upon a cluster of densely packed townhouses. This is a painted scene, and the brushstrokes suggest a stylized or simplified depiction of architecture. The artist's signature, "A.J. Casson", is in the lower right quadrant of the image.

Evening, as blizzard conditions descend on a street in Shiobara, Japan. Layers of fresh snow cover the ground and the rooftops of the buildings. Warm lights glow in a few windows, but there is no other sign of human activity. The evening gloom and the wind-driven snow reduce the buildings to blocky silhouettes; there are shadowy hints of mountains in the distance beyond, but the details are obscured.

Flatiron is red brick, building to the right is red brick, all others are grey glass reflecting the blue sky. The backs of cars with taillights glowing in the lower right foreground. Bare trees on the median on the left mid.
I drove by this iconic Toronto scene every single day on my way to work. Each day I wanted to pull a U-ey in front of the Flatiron Building & head back home. I love this painting but it's of a daily moment of dread.
