If you are a cis ally and you're mad about the treatment of your trans colleagues by the DFL, it sounds like Heather might be putting together a letter to send to the DFL to support us.

I hope our @dfl.org leadership takes seriously the experiences of trans, nonbinary, and two-spirit voters in this state.
We have worked hard to build a trans-inclusive Minnesota. Our community growing deep roots here. To see our community dismissed and disregarded in this way is unacceptable.

Tonight, I attended my first and last DFL Feminist Caucus meeting. As someone who did not come by my feminism through how I was raised, but rather fought my way through to live as the gender I am and to exist as a non-binary person in this world, I found the experience to be demeaning, demoralizing, and actively anti-feminist. If being a feminist in the DFL means caucusing with this group, count me out.

My pronouns are very simple and yet the caucus chairs and caucus leadership could not get them correct, despite being repeatedly reminded and corrected at every single opportunity. However, they could suddenly use the singular β€œthey” when it came to my fellow caucus member who happened to be a trans woman, despite her repeatedly giving her pronouns as she/her.

This was just the beginning. It was clear from the start that no one leading this meeting understood Robert’s Rules, and very clearly wanted to vote for their friends and be done with it. At the very beginning, an illegal motion was made to just adopt an entire slate of leadership, despite there being challengers to those positions known to the caucus.

For me, however, the most hurtful thing was that despite repeatedly affirming that underrepresented people should run for caucus office, should be prioritized in the process, no trans or non-binary people were represented in any of the caucus leadership, much less respected in the meeting. My pronouns - they/them - were clearly seen as an inconvenience, met with eyerolls and annoyance whenever I corrected people. At one point, one of the newly elected caucus leadership claimed her pronouns are β€œBlack Queen,” a clear mockery of the process of asking for pronouns altogether.

Does this reflect DFL values? To mock a non-binary person whose community is under direct attack from the president himself? To refuse to use a person’s proper pronouns so repeatedly and without care that I had to make a SIGN with them on it for the meeting?

It wasn’t as though my pronouns were a surprise. I sent in my statement of intent to run for Vice Chair the day before the meeting and it was sent out to all members. I identified my pronouns in that statement. And yet, they were ignored.

The DFL Feminist Caucus is anything but. I resign my membership.

My statement on tonight's DFL Feminist Caucus Annual Meeting. This statement is being emailed to the Feminist Caucus Chair, Alicia Gibson, and to the State DFL Chair, Richard Carlbom.

This caucus should be ashamed of itself.

If you're going to invite speakers who are Black Trans people and then expect them to shut up about our state governments racist and white supremacist tactics, what's the point?

just say you don't actually want to put in the work and instead remain "one of the good ones"

bye πŸ‘‹

the other day i was struggling hardcore with misunderstanding someone and i thought to myself "who actually cares?!" and then realized me. i care so much about *not* being misconstrued that it literally ruins my day πŸ™ƒ

This is how a functional democracy deals with the party that attempts a coup by the way.
Not with made for tv theater and zero actual holding people accountable like the democrats did after j6

if my workplace started offering free at home STD kits would that be helpful to the twin cities community?

trying to find ways to stockpile healthcare when/if it inevitably becomes difficult to source.

we already stock plan B and pregnancy tests.

I think when we tell the truth about what Republicans are doing, and when we're unafraid to do that, it generates momentum. When we lean into the momentum that we generate, and when Democrats aren't afraid to throw a damn punch, then we can see that we can yield results.

I don't believe that we should, you know, cower in the face of tough issues. I think people are looking for strength. And the reason why I think some folks in the Democratic Party have felt like trans issues are hot water, or immigration issues are hot water, is because they haven't felt confident, or the ability to confidently throw a punch on solid ground that is persuasive and uniting people. When we just show people how a bill like this doesn't just hurt trans girls, which is a problem, it hurts all girls; and when we show that a bunch of men who are letting women die in parking lots should not be trusted, it’s like letting foxes into the henhouse; when we call it out aggressively, we're able to bring people together.

I think people smell blood in the water. They can understand weakness. And where they see weakness, that's when everything kind of falls apart. So we have to be strong about these things. And I think projecting strength attracts support.

AOC on the Dem strategy against the trans sports bill today, where they argued it would protect "predators," and ended up losing just 2 Trump-district Dems on it:

current split-screen:

1: MN House, as the GOP attempts to moves to take power they did not earn, and,
2: the US House Representatives, as they hear a total ban on the trans athletics for kids, youth, and young adults.

I feel very sad today. Times are hard friends.

There was a rally today at the capitol - inside - and barely anyone was masked.

so.....what was the point of the rally? a super spreader event?

let alone the only folks there were old cis white women. guess it speaks more to the folks organizing it than anything but god was that disheartening!

In Defense Of Groups Some groups are good, some are bad, some are real, some are fake, but having an ethos is underrated.

So good from @brianbeutler.bsky.social. Say what you will about The Groups, it’s clear that Democrats are incapable of doing politics well and that even the most extreme and misguided interest org isn’t the cause of Dem failures.
