And congress clings to his butthole like a mindless lamprey, complicit in the destruction and dismantling while they delude themselves and pretend we don't see the shit around their lips.

A poem: Green giving magic grows in the corner of my yard A sturdy chestnut tree that makes seasonal messes Dangling strings of rough pollen turn into spiky amulets of nut Its sharp defenses make you work for the prize Bleeding fingers as you marvel the sweet cloister inside One day last year, someone cut my tree Hacking its branches back to contain its bounty Unappreciative of the delicious mess Free food if you wanted the trouble Instead they wanted control A secret butchering Without permission, without reason I raged and grieved for my poor tree Slowly healing through the changing seasons The amputation would not kill its aged roots Not by a long shot Still, it stings to see the blunted cuts Woody scars of mistreatment Ignorance or malice I cannot decide. But now I face a different butcher One I sought by choice Inside me is little lump No bigger than the nut from my precious tree Painless but growing Do we amputate the extraneous Or do we wait for harvest Do we wait for its seed to spread inside of me Would the seeds multiply, root themselves within my bones Gorging until nothing is left But the little nut that should not be. I can live without my breast Just as my tree can live without its limb I know my roots go deeper than that My womanhood belongs to more than my parts Tropes of busty femininity Should not define my body But I’ll know what was taken from me I’ll see the cuts and feel the hollow My scar for healthy intervention Salvation or mutilation I cannot decide.

It's hard to justify finishing a read just to finish it, but you perhaps saved another reader. Dystopian fiction is harder than it seems to pull off well.

Many an old favorite on that table that I never thought I'd know how it felt to live in that fictional world... I've been meaning to check out The Memory Police.

Project 2025 had a sweeping vision of fascism that would make Hitler proud. But Dump is happy to take the lone credit for making America dumb again.

That expression is perfectly annoyed, made even better by being over the shoulder.

I am guilty of this. And I know it wouldn't take that long... just another undone thing on the writer's laundry list of procrastination 😖

Ditto. I've tried a new technique where I record voice-to-text as I'm describing my story to another person. It's a little rambling but it helped me see what stood out, and what they responded to. Keeping it under 300 words is tough, especially for fantasy or sci-fi.

It's just staggering to hear the laundry list of corruption. Republicans have chosen this autocracy. Hope they like the taste of a KFC-laced butthole.
