How I wish people criticizing terrible prose would not always feel the need to reach for badly written genre romance for their cheap shot.

There are literally mountains of shitty, terrible, NO GOOD 'literary fiction' books right the fuck there, you really don't need to add misogyny to the mix.

You mean the company that's currently being struck by its workers and the company that's currently being boycotted because of its terrible DEI policy rollbacks? Why not just call this the Chocolate Mint Racist Scab Frostie?

$1,800 to go and the night is young! Come on, internet, we can do this. Scarleteen's sex ed and direct services are essential in an era of misinformation and they require real humans who bring years of experience and compassion to their work. Health educators should have access to health care.

to be clear I don't think either of them should've been banned, but a 3-day ban is an inconvenience at worst while Link's permaban is actively hostile and racist

In light of the astronomical increases for my health insurance next year, I thought it would be a good time to encourage people to subscribe. (A few hundred should cover it. Sigh.)

I've seen 20 yo YouTubers claim the 2000s weren't homophobic, there was no pushback or resistance to the bush administration, and that nobody knew there weren't WMDs. One even said that George Lucas tried to warn us about the day's political dangers in the SW prequel trilogy but no one heeded

When you realise that in addition to being a misogynist and terrible scholar, Jo-jo Campbell was a Nazi sympathiser*, the Hero's Journey and all that monomyth bullshit lands differently.

[*I've never understood this distinction. A Nazi sympathiser is a Nazi in my book.]

Six panel, cartoon-style graphic titled, why use alt-text?
First panel: slow internet. Next to a line drawing of a cell phone showing a social media post with an image, where the alt-text is visible while the image is unavailable. Text reads: Alt-text is shown in place of unloaded images.
Second panel: Findability. A line drawing of the top of a phone, showing the search bar, reading "dog with banana". The text above it reads, alt-text helps to search content.
Third panel: screen readers. In lieu of the image, a blank square with alt-text shows up; the text above the box reads: Alt-text is read out to people using text-to-speech software.
Fourth panel: translation. There's a line drawing of a cell phone, showing the Google translate box, reading "English to Deutsch". The text above reads: Alt-text can be translated.
Fifth panel: readability. There's a line drawing showing very poor writing inside a dialogue bubble; next to it the clarifying text "a character says 'hello, guys'" The text above the drawing reads, Text in images can be made legible.
Sixth panel: disambiguation. The line drawing of the phone again, showing part of an image that, depending on how you look at it, seems to be either a bunny or a duck. The clarifying text reads, "my pet bunny". Above this, the text: description helps clarify intent.

Please add alt-text when sharing images, so that blind and low-vision people aren't excluded from the conversation. Some context and copy/paste or a brief description are often enough. Checking the "reminder to add alt-text" box in your accessibility settings helps a lot.

Thank you.

you should go out of your way to use your trans friends' names when you talk to them

they chose their names and they feel it in their chests when they hear or see it

we waited our whole lives to hear our real names and it doesn't get old

Two-thirds of English councils have not prosecuted a single landlord in past three years Exclusive: Councils prosecuted just 64 landlords despite receiving 300,000 complaints from tenants in unfit homes

Two-thirds of English councils have not prosecuted a single rogue landlord in past three years despite 300,000 separate complaints.

Less than 2% of complaints led to any action.

2010-2020 Austerity: 41% cut in enforcement funding, staff cut by a third.

Law without enforcement is a cruel hoax.

New from me: Florida bill seeks to stop ICE agents from operating while masked and without identification.

Per Reagan appointed Judge William G. Young: β€œICE goes masked for a single reason, to terrorize Americans into quiescence… we have never tolerated an armed secret police.”

We all know no company that hiked prices because the tariffs raised their cost, will lower prices now that the tariffs are either reduced or even if SCOTUS nukes them--we also know no one below C suit will get raises that even approach inflation. Even without the AI crash, we are fucked.

And if tech companies ever do manage to successfully build an AI that can replace trillions of dollars in human labor, the economy will collapse due to the erasure of the consumer class.

There is no reality where AI doesn't crater the economy.

If we aren't receiving services, and we have no income because our jobs are being done by machines, who is going to pay for increased infrastructure costs? Tech companies? Billionaires? Lol

Any way you count it, the math doesn't math.

The real AI "business model" is was to bring in all the politicians, billionaires, and major Wall Street players early with the promise of impossibly huge returns and set the whole thing up so that it would go from not even existing to "too big to fail" before anyone outside the scheme could stop it
