Dr HAMISH CAMPBELL (National—Ilam) (16:06): I rise to speak in support of the Employment Relations Amendment Bill. We have heard a lot of hyperbole from the other side about the attacks on people, and, actually, we’ve heard this all before. We heard this when we ended the war on landlords—and what was the result of that? Rents have gone down, there’s been an increase in rental stock, and we’ve ended up with a better outcome for New Zealanders. Most people realise it is a tight relationship between employer and employee. Our laws have become more complex, making it harder for them to reach a solution that works. We have heard things about these big multinational companies. Well, let’s think about that: 97 percent of businesses in New Zealand are small to medium enterprises—that is mum and dad employers employing the person down the road who is trying to get ahead, not what the other side is trying to portray. We need labour laws where people can have flexibility and we can get what we need out of both sides. This bill goes some way to addressing that—therefore, I commend it to the House.

He and Winston Peters used their speeches meant to condemn terrorism and antisemitism to push their agenda. They could call for unity instead they sow division and point fingers at their political opponents.

But there's another reason why it felt close to home for many New Zealanders. The Kiwi Jewish community has, sadly, like so many around the world in the past two years, received an intensification of hate mail, threats, and harassment since 7 October 2023. Horror and events in the Middle East have bled into anti-Semitism at home. Sadly, some politicians have allowed it to happen and shamefully, others have encouraged it. Just this weekend a sign was displayed outside the Jewish school Kadimah, on Remuera Rd in the Epsom electorate and it said, "One-State Solution, Palestine for Everybody." Is there anyone with the gall here who can deny the resemblance of the slogan on that sign to chanting, "Palestine must be free, from the river to the sea"?

Idk the vagueness makes me uneasy. Are we supposed to believe that attacks are just because of outsiders? Ideas can be imported irregardless, as seen by beliefs of the Christchurch terrorist whose white supremacist beliefs are everywhere online

Seymour is (predictably) politicising this tragedy to attack opposition and the free palestine movement.

Right wing trolls revving up because Swarbrick dared to mention islamaphobia alongside antisemitism. I dare to say you can't fight one without the other as they are intertwined and mirror one another as most bigotry does.
