Now, I donโ€™t care what I do for a living as long as it involves computer programming.

I liked to play games as a kid, so, at four years old, I had already decided that I wanted to *make* them, but it wasnโ€™t until I started high school that I took game development classes where I would quickly switch my focus to programming in general.

Although, I havenโ€™t really started the game engine in Java yet. Iโ€™m still figuring out some of the basics for the libraries Iโ€™m using.

Who in their right mind would decide to develop three programming languages in C++ and two game engines in Python and Java?

I would, apparently!

Has anyone else ever found themselves working on five coding projects at once for fun, or is that just me?

Iโ€™d normally be skeptical about things like this, especially because itโ€™s only a *possible* announcement. But considering that Half-Life is one of Steamโ€™s greatest franchises, they ended on a cliffhanger, AND HL2 was released 21 years ago, theyโ€™re bound to have at least CONSIDERED a third game.

Also just a heads up, I am not in any way an expert in this. This is just what I found has worked best for me and what Iโ€™ve noticed so far while studying these languages and game engines.

I specifically chose Python and C because Python has a library specifically for making games, and engines like Unity use C# which is very similar to C. While there are some BIG differences between C and C#, youโ€™ll mostly be using what you learned from C (as far as Iโ€™ve seen while using Unity)

From personal experience, learning a couple programming languages helps. Itโ€™ll get you used to the coding process and all of its rules and whatnot, *and* itโ€™ll make learning other languages easier. Iโ€™d suggest starting with Python then moving to C.

YouTube has really gone downhill these last few years. I shouldn't have to give all of my private info to them just to get access to content that I'm not even going to watch anyway that they'll remove in a week for not being kid friendly.

23.10.2025 23:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Unfortunately for them, I won't be giving them any of my personal information. That's where *I* draw the line.

23.10.2025 23:07 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I *did* just spend the last few months doing a bunch of research for a couple of projects I'm working on. I thought I deserved a break. But no, the moment I chose to watch something to make me laugh, THAT'S where they draw the line!

23.10.2025 23:07 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So YouTube just age restricted my account because they couldn't verify my age.

Why? Because I decided to watch the single "You Laugh You Lose" video that showed up in my feed rather than the several computer programming videos.

Every day I realize more and more just how much of a nerd I am.

I used JSON files for the first time today for a project Iโ€™m working on and itโ€™s so cool! Itโ€™s pretty much just a better version of a text file but Iโ€™m still so amazed by it! It feels so fancy and tidy!

Bad art with good gameplay is better than good art with bad gameplay.

Thatโ€™s actually why I love programming so much. Thereโ€™s nothing quite as satisfying as getting to a point where I can add onto what Iโ€™ve made! And even if I donโ€™t add anything, I still have something that Iโ€™m proud of!

17.10.2025 03:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I almost got scripting to work, but then I ran into some bugs that I just couldnโ€™t fix for the life of me. Iโ€™ll probably come back to it sometime, but right now Iโ€™m just really burned out.

At least I learned some new things from it.

13.10.2025 01:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

EXACTLY! Too many people fail to realize that ideas are easier to read and write on paper than they are to set up and execute.

โ€œ____ should be easy to makeโ€, I wish! No, itโ€™ll take weeks, maybe months. Even then, it might still only be half of a working concept made entirely of spaghetti code!

That was back in 2004 so I'm not as frustrated, but it's also the only RPG that has ever actually held my attention for more than the first 30 minutes of the game, so it still kinda sucks.

05.10.2025 01:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I just found out that we almost had a 3d remake of Chrono Trigger (literally my one and only favorite RPG game), but Square Enix sent a cease-and-desist letter to Resurrection Games, the team that was working on it, and so it was never released.

Iโ€™m currently rewriting Topple in C++, just to get the hang of it. But Iโ€™ll probably be using it for all future versions at this point, because itโ€™s just too good!

29.09.2025 05:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I tried C++ a while ago, and all I can say is that I wish I started using it sooner.

Itโ€™s everything I like in C with everything I wish C had!

29.09.2025 05:28 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I canโ€™t believe that this is my idea of fun.

25.09.2025 04:19 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I already rewrote it once and I ended up making it more efficient. I may as well just rewrite it again.

25.09.2025 04:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The issue is that when thereโ€™s multiple blocks of code that run depending on a given condition, only the first block of code will obey that condition. Every other block will run regardless. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why it wonโ€™t work. I might just rewrite that part of the engine.

25.09.2025 04:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There IS a problem though. The scripts use two programming languages that I designed (idk what to name them yet).

One language initializes the game world, its objects, and their attributes. The other, when a script is assigned to an object, tells that object what to do.

25.09.2025 04:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I managed to get a (barely) working version of the engine. Right now, you can only put shapes on the screen and apply scripts to them to make them do things, but Iโ€™m proud of it.
