Another thought: angles mess with ballistics, or really our understanding of them. From an elevated position, compensation (DOPE) can get weird.

Also 300 yards isn't a bonkers sight-in these days for plenty of western hunters or distance shooters...

Why assume low? I'd assume missed high...could have been sighted in for 300 yards and took the closer shot without good range and dope

Or he was aiming center mass and was sighted in for 300 yards (over compensated for bullet drop).

Most people who can shoot to 200 yards wouldn't default to a headshot, any hunter I know would go for vitals in general

I should update: the protest was peaceful, but also there was some light vandalism on ice vehicles....so still a totally reasonable response to initiate a downtown curfew and deploy cops from around the county to enforce

Welp, Spokane is officially popping off. A light protest of a couple hundred people, overwhelmingly peaceful was declared an unlawful assembly before police escalated. There's now a curfew in place for much of downtown- hell of a start to Pride and no kings this weekend

I'd assume it's also to ensure that the whole animal was salvaged and removed, and not just the backstraps or bloodshot-free portions. WA has a phone-in permit system and tells you to take the whole animal as well as CWD testing requirements in certain areas
