Folks may remember the Card indexes at Suffolk Archives in Bury & Ipswich. The Ipswich cards were scanned & catalogued some time ago, but we have been informed Bury are now available too. Coverse Poor Law stuff (removals etc) but other stuff as well

Every day is a school day. I learned today that an Irish mile was longer than an English one with the Irish one measuring 2240 yards compared with 1760 for English and the Irish mile was used legally until 1826.

It would be my favourite too, but I’ve since learned that that ancestry will be covering workhouse info in their 10 year contract with the archives. But as they are currently working on probate, I suspect it will be some time before they get around to it.

Turned my attention this evening to Suffolk Ancestry baptisms, having done the marriages. Of the first 6 Kerridge baptisms I looked at, 4 had wrong year, 1 had no year. Although 17th century, were easy to read Oh dear this is going to be a haul if that failure rate contnues

I think they are getting worse. They are in such a rush to get them out and entice people to take out subscriptions. I don’t think they care.
