The Words You Say
A commune of Homo floresiensis on the beach of Flores island 75.000 years ago.
When travelling in open water by boat, adventurers beware of a creature capable of killing sailors from a distance, luring them into the water to eat them using their unique, possibly vocalisations: the Mermaid (Sirena uroscelis).
Another Dungeon Meshi piece, hope you like it! :>
A species adventurers dread to encounter in the dungeon, not necessarily because of the direct danger they pose, but because of the possibilities their presence indicates, either the larger predators they follow or the disease their feces can spread: the Harpy (Foeminornis gynotops).

An office ceiling with drop tiles. Some of the tiles have been removed, revealing a large fleshy mass that encompasses the whole space. It is intertwined with the rods, cables and piping of the building.
Incubomurum domus, commonly known as "house meat", is an amorphous vertebrate that lodges itself in the empty spaces of buildings.
Originally evolved in caves, it quickly adapted to human dwellings and their ample feeding opportunities. They may also cause structural instabilities to the foundation.
Slithering through the lush reefs and seagrass meadows of the Indian Ocean lurks a slow, calculating predator, one of the biggest and most dangerous one can find in these waters. The largest non-tiamat snake of the Artechocene, the Tyrant Shesha (Nagaraja imperator).

A dead woman in a high school locker.
A red glitchy ghost stands in a void, surrounded by various floating shards of glass and objects that belong to a classroom, a fairground and an arcade.
Thanks to @ranboo.bsky.social for having me on to participate in the Generation Loss project!

23.01.2025 22:42 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Growing in the lower levels on surfaces with enough light and water available, the Dryad plant (Anthaie anthropoides) may first seem like unassuming vines.
However, the wonder, and danger, of this plant comes during its flowering stage, with complex mobile flowers ready to attack would-be threats.
Sketching some Artechocene herbivore ideas: a frilled deer which grow multiple antlers around it; a venomous small antelope that whose toxins derive from its diet; an ungulate that uses neural spines with keratin tubercles to fight conspecifics and predators and a brotopakinus, an aquatic hyrax.

13.01.2025 17:25 โ ๐ 10752 ๐ 1364 ๐ฌ 112 ๐ 4colorful key splash art for Project Dragon- a group of adventurers (a musical ocarina golem, a rider mounted on a wyvern, a dimunutive cat person and a pet pinoceros) crest a hill over a sun-drenched landscape with billowing clouds and distant ruins. In the sky above, a character composed of constellations spreads their 6 arms and welcomes them to the world.
Just before things started to nosedive on twitter, I posted a thread that walked through the massive body of work I did over the last three years (on an inspiring team) on the cancelled Project Dragon aka Everhaven.
For posterity I reckon I'll repost that thread, piece by piece, over here โจ

A female Oncorhynchus rastrosus swims infront of the camera in cloudy water full of plankton O. rastrosus is a massive extinct salmon that reached around 2.5m in size, it's also called the spike-toothed salmon due to the two teeth on its top jaw jutting out to the sides, these were present on all individuals. it was a planktivore like its extant relatives O. keta and O. nerka

a female Oncorhynchus rastrosus, the spike-toothed salmon. it's commonly misrepresented as a massive sockeye salmon with tusks slapped on, but we know that they didnt undergo any drastic levels of sexually dimorphic remodelling

A late addition to this series of concept sketches for my personal Kerguela project: some Cenozoic critters. Beaked sloths, giant Parankylosaurs, non-mammalian cynodonts, and much more. #specevo #art #cenozoic

The predator has a savage-looking hooked bill and a long, angular face, and has subtle vertical striping with light undersides. The smaller animal has a dark "bandit mask" and fluffy tail. It is scared.
I've been lousy at posting new art this year, so here's something #paleoart -related that I've been tinkering with between other jobs. What is this weird, #dinosaur -like animal? My patrons know (rattle rattle: www.patreon.com/markwitton), and you might too, one day. #sciart

08.01.2025 17:09 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My attempt at making a lithographic, scientific illustration of my brain parasite oc Lilin. Her scientific name has been drawn over with a black pen and the name "Lilin" is written in cursive in it's place. There's three views of her Longitudinal Fissure Dam (LFD). A expanded superior view, a withdrawn superior view, and a expanded inferior view. In the center of the drawing is two images of her stalk. One labeled extended and one labeled contracted. To it's left and right are two views. One of her LFD not extended and the other is how it would be if she was in a brain. Bottom center is her Pith body drawn in Superior and inferior bisection views. To the left is a diagram of where she sits in a brain. It's labeled "Fig. 1. Bisection of a host human brain with a specimin fully integrated. Fore-LFD spread out as if on the frontal lobe." To the far right-bottom is a size comparison to a human hand. "Fig. 2. Size comparison to a human hand. Mature specimens are roughly ten cm when spread out on a flat surface." There are numbers pointing to different parts of her anatomy. Numbers coincide to the following. 1. Stalks โ 2. Neural Handle โ 3. Dendrite Webs โ 4. Arms โ 5. Stalk Sheaths โ 6. Suction Disk โ 7. Stem Base โ 8. Peduncle โ 9. Dam Pedestal โ 10. Stalk Cord โ 11. Extremely high effort Lilin revamp in the style of a scientific illustration.
Although she's heavily inspired by sea slugs and copopods (among other aquatic, "squish" invertabrates as I call them), she's not supposed to be one specifically. Just a fictional brain parasite #InverteFest
