To start it off do you card board the same as with the beds?

Great idea. I never liked the idea of boarders but the soil has slumped bridging the gap I left and allowing weed to encroach.

Do you use membrane under you chips or something else?

Good day at the allotment. Finally starting to get it under control.
Planted out some beans and onion.

On reflection I think the no dig beds will definitely need a boarder

Hibernating bumblebee uncovered in soil

If you discover a hibernating bumblebee while digging in your garden or allotment this winter, try to avoid disturbing her, and loosely re-cover her so she can hit the snooze button until spring. More advice from @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social at www.bumblebeeconservation.org

Don't 😬😲😞 bloody 12o yesterday all day and night ... At the allotment I was in a jumper! In November it's really bloody scary

Thanks, im hoping to avoid needing boarders on them if I can

I’ve watched some of Charles Dowding’s video on no dig, he doesn’t seem to think boarders are needed. But to be honest minimising cost was the main driver. I may add them in time.

It’s lovely stuff. It was a bit of an outlay but hopefully worth it in the long run. Not sure how I’m going to do the next few as I’d rather keep buying compost to a minimum

First 3 no dig beds added to the allotment. Not sure if they will need borders or not. Just in time to get all of my garlic planted.

Don’t see that every day. What will you use it for?

Manage to keep the grass trimmed and a bit more under control. I tried digging in a couple of beds over the summer but the ground was so hard the sods wouldn’t break up. I’ve had a go at putting in a couple of no dig beds this month for my garlic

Definitely go for it. There will always be a learning curve. This time of year is good, there’s no rush. Nothing is growing so you have time to plan and there’s no pressure to get things looking too nice as everything looks drab at this time of year.

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation.

I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.
