also i loooove how you didn't keep akechi's uniform the same for akira - the detective coat being open suits him so so well

wow the detail in this... the fact that they're playing cards instead of chess... lavenza's presence... their personalities - the things that stay the same and the things that change omg. everything about this is so beautiful. i love this world and this comic

Panel 1: Akechi's two cards gesture with a "fwip". Panel 2: Akechi looks intensely at the reader/Joker from across the table as he holds up his two red cards, gravely asking "What would you become?" His pairs of cards a bright red in front of him. Behind him, he's framed by the tarot illustration of the fool, replaced with his hair and eyes glowing golden, a blue butterfly just starting to cross in front of it. Behind the card are peeks of Akechi's original Crow and Black Mask, reaching out behind thick black chains. Panel 2: Joker's face is hidden as he squeezes his outstretched hand into a fist, the steam from his coffee once again wrapping behind him and sneaking into the next panel. "...I'll admit it has crossed my mind..." Panel 3: Joker drops his smile, looking off to the side in a moment of genuine contemplation, his mask dropped somewhat. Behind him, the steam looks more like smoke. "If we met another time, or never at all..."

Panels 1 and 2: Suddenly a burst of color as two panels are laid over each other like transparent pieces of red and blue glass, smoke emanating from both and a spotlight cast over the entire page. On the left is the original Joker's Phantom Thief outfit from the profile, frowning like a greek tragedy mask. On the right is this Joker's AU jester outfit, sporting a smile like a greek comedy mask. In the center, in pink, two hands pick two of Akechi's cards, the Joker on the left, and the Ace on the right, as Joker continues with "Wondering..." Panel 3: Between two trails of smoke breaking in the middle, the top of a red card is put up with a "fwip," as Joker says "But in the end..." Panel 4: Joker is smiling with no light in his eye, his hands outstretched in victory as he holds a pair of Aces. He's outlined in red, including his speech bubbles as he says "I feel like it's fate! That I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be." Behind him is the tarot design for Justice replaced with his face, his eyes golden and his tie curled around his neck. Behind the card are the arms of Joker in the Velvet Room prison behind bars and chains, face hidden by the card. A blue butterfly escapes the panel. Where Akechi's panel bled into the page, Joker's is confined by borders, the only thing breaking out of the panel being chains Panel 5: Akechi's eyes squint in something like disdain or suspicion, glowing red.

Panel 1: Back in LeBlanc, Akechi turns his head away clicking his tongue in annoyance. Joker drops his two cards with a carefree smile on his face as he says "Aww, don't look so sour, Akechi-kun! It was a really close game!" Akechi mutters "I'm sure you'd prefer a total victory..." and Joker retorts "Rude!!" Panel 2: Joker holds up the deck with a bright smile on his face, asking "Well, how about another quick game? If you're tired--" Akechi interrupts with "It's like I said." Panel 3: Colored in bright pink with anime bubbles and sparkles, Akechi puts on Joker's big glasses and looks a bit shy as he says "I just wanted to talk with you." Panel 4: Joker's heart loudly goes "ba-bump!" as he scatters some of the cards, blushing as he's caught off guard. Panel 5: An annoyed Morgana wags his tail and puts his paws over his ears as Joker gushes "Well, it's natural to want to monopolize my time! But since it's my win, how about a little poker--" Akechi interrupts with "I'm not betting money," which Joker jeers.

Panel 1: Akechi goes to shuffle the cards when Joker says "...Hey." Panel 2: Joker rests his chin on the back of his hand, his face hidden except his lips. He's framed by red as he asks "Do you feel the same? About our paths?" Panel 3: Akechi shuffles the deck as he says "...I think you're right about fate." Panel 4: Akechi finishes shuffling the red cards with a "shfff" Panel 5: Framed by an array of playing cards, Akechi and Futaba look down at a phone that's saying something in a glowing red speech bubble as Akechi remarks "But I also wish things could be different." Among the playing cards are three cards stabbed with knives: a Jack of diamonds with Akechi's face stabbed just beside his head with a bit of blood, a Jack of spades with Joker's face stabbed clear through the middle with much more blood, and finally the Ace of hearts stabbed with in the center, the heart bright red with blood as it reads "END."

I still really like how this came out. I think I still have a box of extra copies somewhere. (2/2)

He’s wearing a large overcoat, a dark button-up shirt, and black leather gloves. As he looks across the counter, the steam of his coffee wraps around him and behind the second and third panels, creating a loop or noose. "We could play a round of chess... Or even some poker would--" Panel 3: Akechi puts up his hair in a small ponytail with a scowl on his face, looking away from Joker. He’s wearing a black short-sleeve turtleneck and a black apron. "I'm tired,” he says. “I just want to talk a bit." The steam wraps and re-enters his panel. Panel 4: Joker smiles with a small blush on his face, kissing the frames of his glasses with a small, bright red heart. The steam from his coffee frames his face. Panel 5: Akechi's hands grab two halves of a deck of cards, revealing an ace of hearts and the Joker card, which features a red-gloved hand holding up Joker's original Phantom Thief mask on it. "I see. Then deal away, Akechi-kun!"

A spread page of the two casually playing Old Maid in a booth, the backs of the cards a bright red. Behind Akechi, Morgana is curled up as the two both smirk at each other teasingly. Mixed with their conversation are panels of them picking cards and running around as Phantom Thieves together, all in bright red. J: If I win, you have to wear my glasses again! (Joker picks the 7 of spades) A: You always pick stupid bets. If I win, treat me to sushi. J: Wow, you're definitely not a cheap date, Akechi-kun! A: I'm tired enough to ignore that. J: I'm not surprised you're exhausted. Sae-san's deadline is fast approaching. (Boots run across a floor, coins raining down) A: Yet you're still in full spirits. J: I'm pretty accustomed to deadlines! A: Mhmm. J: But more than that... Exploring the Metaverse with you all has been invigorating. (Joker in a more jester-inspired PT outfit looks behind him happily) A: Hmph, is that so? J: And I still want you to join me in Mementos before the deadline... When you're at 100%, of course. (Akechi picks a card) A: Of course. I haven't forgotten. (Akechi in a more bird-like PT outfit look ahead on with a small smile) J: Great! I figured not!

Panel 1: A shot of a cup of coffee and pairs of cards. Off-panel, Joker exclaims "Wow! Already down to the last pair!" Panel 2: Joker's gloved hand holding up an ace of hearts between two fingers. Panel 3: Joker smiles gently, eyes closed as he reaches out of frame. "Seems like it's all up to--" Akechi interrupts with "Kurusu." Panel 4: LeBlanc fades in the background as Akechi's back is to the reader, holding up two cards for Joker to choose. In turn, Joker freezes mid-reach, a shocked expression on his face as Akechi asks "Do you think we're both where we need to be?" Behind both of them, a blue butterfly flies by. Panel 5: A closeup of Joker's eye, relaxed in a mysterious, calculating look, glimmering with a splash of red. "...What do you mean?" Panel 6: Akechi looks down at the two cards in his hand: an ace of spades and the Joker, cast in a harsh spotlight. Akechi replies "Our paths crossing like this... Everything was so delicate. If just one thing changed... Where would you be?"
