HALIFAX STANDS UNITED AGAINST FASCISM Ironically-named fascist group Stand United Canada are organizing a demonstration on Saturday, January 31st, at Grand Parade. While it is being advertised as a "protest against Mark Carney & the liberal government", the actual purpose is to promote ICE-style mass deportations, conspiracy theories, and other planks of far-right Christian nationalist ideology. This is not an isolated event. Stand United Canada, which is led by Dutch white supremacist Freek Schep, have organized previous nationalist and anti-immigrant demonstrations. They were also involved with the "Million March 4 Children", a transphobic hate march, where counter demonstrators were assaulted. One look at the United States, where paramilitary nationalist violence has become government policy, shows us why we cannot allow fascists to organize or build a movement in our city. We are calling on anyone willing and able to gather for a counter-demonstration, to take over the space, and to show Stand United Canada that Halifax is united against fascism. When I look at fascism throughout history I regularly think "this happened bc the population protested and resisted the secret police too much. I wish they had chilled out, demonstrated proper civility so as not to earn the already occurring oppression, and let the fascist lose the next election

telling the secret police they have immunity to harm & kill citizens really lays bare the hollowness of decades of right-wing GOP screeching about encroaching Big Government - it was never a problem they had with government per se, just that it wasn't being used to harm the people they wanted to
