Hello!
My name is Roisin Guthrie. I am a student at Sheffield Hallam University studying a Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology.
For my research project (Dissertation) I am conducting a study exploring the thoughts, views and lived experiences of parents of autistic children and how they speak to their child(ren) about their autism.
The aim of the study is to gain a greater understanding of how parents speak to their autistic child(ren) about their autism and how they do this; what resources are used (if any).
There is currently little research on this topic and data will be invaluable to this area, helping other parents and professionals better support children with autism.
The study involves interviews that are either face to face (on University Campus) or online (via Teams Meet). These will last up to 30-40 minutes. Participants will be asked a total of 20 questions. The audio from the interview will be recorded only and participants will be kept anonymous in the transcription and write up.
If you are the parent of an autistic child or young person (diagnosed or undiagnosed and on the pathway) and are interested in or would like to take part in this study, please email me on a8020052@hallam.shu.ac.uk for more information.
Thank you!

Autistic kids are so resilient, yet they perpetually get told they're not resilient enough.

If people understood what they were managing, they'd soon stop being so ignorant.

For those unaware: Autism Speaks is a hate group that treats autism as a disease to be "cured" and autistic people as inferior. No autistic people are at the top of this org, and they support dehumanizing "therapies" to "get rid of" autism. The puzzle piece wrt autism is also a hate symbol.
