Finished this trilogy today and enjoyed it way more than I thought I was going to. A few parts of the first book irk me but a hugely enjoyable read overall.

I’m a purist, I look for faithfulness more than anything. On occasions, though, the changes really work, such as in the new Musketeers movies that are mentioned in your OP. Slight deviations are unavoidable, of course but rewriting the story… no.

The French one? It’s terrible. Nothing at all to do with the source material. Of all the adaptations out there it is the least faithful to the novel. Avoid at all costs.
