It makes Fahrenheit nice for weather, imo. When it's under 0 you're at risk of ice even on salted road (this is less true now because weve found better de-icers than nacl). Warmer temps can be thought of as a percentage. 100 is as hot as your body. 50 is half as hot as your body.*

He was aiming to make 0° be the freezing point of a saturated salt water solution and 100° be human body temp. Obvs he was off slightly, but that was the goal.
