No son, they are not "magically delicious." The workers made them delicious. This is a slogan meant to mystify the social conditions of labor

Sorry I should clarify my comment. I agree with phasing men out. I was remarking on his behavior not your suggestion. Haha.

People of Maine, how can the rest of the country help you stand up the way MN successfully did?

Yep. If a single member of the Senate Democratic caucus votes to find ICE this week - sensible thing to do will be to burn down the existing email/text fundraising industrial complex and start over again. Not a single penny for this useless party unless it stands up this week.

As someone who is sympathetic toward democratic socialism, I totally got what Ken is trying to say and do not disparage him at all for it. Pragmatics matter in terms of choice of of language. Not to mention he was being charitable and humble.

If I were dragged into a fire I would resist and not go willingly; likewise
I would shout: β€˜It’s going to burn me!’, not: β€˜Maybe it will be quite pleasant!’

Federal agents invaded even the offices of The Crisis and the National Association for the advancement of colored people and asked searching questions: " just what, after all, were our objects and activities?” I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, β€œWe are seeking to have the constitution of the United states thoroughly and completely enforced.” It took some ingenuity, even for Southerners, to make treason out of that.

How W. E. B. Du Bois responded to government policing of "anti-American" sentiment during the 1910s:

"I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, 'We are seeking to have the Constitution of the United States thoroughly and completely enforced.' ”

Everything about this is bonkers. The arrest, the charge, the possible sentence, the **$2 million bail.**

This is a VERY well crafted lawsuit.
1) Plaintiff is natural born.
2) He was detained 2X in a fast-growing part of Alabama, not in a city that Brett Kavanaugh could be easily duped into believing was all migrants.
3) Unwarranted detentions were on private property.
4) He showed Real ID both times.

Whenever asked what my motivation is for reviewing Shapiro etc I usually paraphrase Hitchens:

There is something really cute, almost adorable, about a bunch of very rich, very vain men thinking the biggest problem in society is they aren't quite rich and revered enough

Viciously subtweeting Rawls here. More and more I wonder about the liberal version of the just-world illusion.

"I did not draw my principles from my prejudices but from the nature of things"

- So says Montesquieu and may I just say I absolutely aspire to the confidence of an early modern philosopher's preface. Just straight up being like "Btw I only said true things" Like, oh, word? Dope. Let's go!

Ironically, a more diverse set of agents may have had life experiences to prevent them from making such assumptions.

Police brutality is bad; systematic racial profiling and illegal deportations are bad; abortion clinic bombings are bad; mass graves are worse. You know what a child's skull looks like after multiple blunt-force traumas? That's the floor. Keeping everyone out of mass graves is the fundamental goal.

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.

The level of intentional cruelty is staggering. It is one thing to have unintended consequences of a policy hurting marginal groups… this is different. This is flagrant, morally impermissible, and carries with it a cost that is well above and beyond the parties involved.
