Police brutality is bad; systematic racial profiling and illegal deportations are bad; abortion clinic bombings are bad; mass graves are worse. You know what a child's skull looks like after multiple blunt-force traumas? That's the floor. Keeping everyone out of mass graves is the fundamental goal.

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.

The level of intentional cruelty is staggering. It is one thing to have unintended consequences of a policy hurting marginal groups… this is different. This is flagrant, morally impermissible, and carries with it a cost that is well above and beyond the parties involved.
