Latest read (audio), Swords and Ice Magic (1973-77); the earliest Fafhrd & Gray Mouser stories are generally the most fondly remembered (and they are great) but Leiber, in his sixties, when he wrote these short stories (and a novel) is really wonderful here as well.

My Conversation with Fake Dan Brown - Lee Goldberg
Lee shares his conversation with a scammer pretending to be Dan Brown.
Since FALLEN STAR came out last week, I've been bombarded with messages from scammers pretending to be famous authors, just wanting to be my pal. I was curious what Fake Dan Brown wanted from me. Here is our exchange. leegoldberg.com/my-conversat...

In addition to A FISTUL OF DOLLARS, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE and THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY...
We have: THE DEVIL'S DOLLAR SIGN, A COFFIN FULL OF DOLLARS, BLOOD FOR A DIRTY DOLLAR, THE MILLION DOLLAR BLOODHUNT and A DOLLAR TO DIE FOR.
So today I learned that there were tie-in novels for THE DOLLARS TRILOGY that went beyond the movies and boy do they have some amazing titles.

The writhing mass of a Shoggoth, a monstrous amalgam of horrific parts, occupies an icy corridorβand much of the frame of view. Ectoplasmic flesh bubbles with eyeballs floating to the surface. Some eyeballs are white with human irises while others are green with vertical slashes or blood red with monstrous black slits. Toothy maws groan to the surface while tentacles probe upward to the ceiling. Tendrils slither and curl while the occasional protruding claw snaps.

Front cover of BNW Vol. 3, featuring our own Monster Cereal Box mascot
Back cover of same; a coffee mug with a giant insect leg and a severed finger crawling across the table
spine of same
Proof in hand! Can't tell you how much I fretted over this cover art (spent 10x longer on the back than on the front tbh)
I knew it was gonna be *a lot*; the only question was whether it would be *good*. Happy to say, it is.
