Is there a name for when you clean something and think you did a good job, and then as soon as you look away for a second, you see all the spots you missed?

Power Washing Aphasia or something?

Weird Dream Movie Pitch #1

John Candy, in a war zone, stuck behind enemy lines in a sort of Stripes situation. But he’s alone, not handling it well, and his (talking, possibly only to him) rifle is voiced by JK Simmons.

Best sad news. Many happy years to Pork Chop!

@wtyppod.bsky.social Any thoughts about doing an episode on the General Slocum? Seems like it might be harder to research than some but overall it has all the traits of a good episode. (Lax safety standards, pennywise corporate management, a little accidental ethnic cleansing…)

The inability to conceive of your great grandpa being a bad guy gets a lot of people into very weird cognitive dissonance traps.

This is Coco. His two favorite things are sleeping on the deck and begging for treats.

Dang. He was brilliant.

Had a really cool book of photography too.

True for single drives. Although pretty much everything is USB3 now anyway. So kinda moot.

A while back I modded an old cd tower to house a couple extra HDDs, and filled the empty bays with DVD-RW drives for kicks. So, yea, I’m insane but also I can clog a USB2 connection.

It’s almost like Sanders, whose primary policy positions include [checks notes] racism is bad, and people shouldn’t die because they are poor, is not actually all that far left.

Seems to me you’d ethically have to double check the work anyway. Looking up references, conclusions, etc., probably takes just as much time.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I was under the impression that the compute requirements for training the models would be a limiting factor for anybody without a few million dollars to spend?

Cool.

It’s too bad a guy/company with that much money doesn’t fail immediately, but instead staggers around for years or decades making everything in their industry worse.

Blaming individuals for the failings of the system is how they protect the system.

The Black Death had a similar effect on labor costs and worker rights.

The British army had a tendency to rush minor nobility through officer training and have them lead infantry charges so low ranking officers (and upper class British 20-something’s) had significantly higher casualty rates.

I sure wish β€œethically unimpeachable” wasn’t newsworthy. Anyway, here we go again.
