Got it. I replaced the heating coil in my dryer recently, which required quite a bit of taking the dryer apart. I may be able to handle the range as well. I'll watch some videos to see what's involved. Thanks again!

I don't want to buy a new oven, but it's also hard to imagine I'll feel safe using this one again.... 🫠🤑😭

PS - It did not start a big fire. I pulled out our fire extinguisher, turned the oven off, and unplugged it. I haven't removed the bottom metal panel to look yet because it's still hot. Yeesh.

OK bluesky hivemind - WTF just happened to my Maytag range? I was cooking, & heard an electrical kind of noise (like this: www.youtube.com/shorts/5hoEX...). I opened up the oven, & saw light & smoke coming up from a slat in the metal at the bottom of the oven. It wasn't burning food. What happened?!

Finally getting round to reading @weinersmith.bsky.social @zachweinersmith.bsky.social City On Mars book. It’s very good but it turns out I’m also what they call a Space Bastard.

I prefer Astrobastard, personally. Might change my job title.

Would aliens describe the Universe the same way we do? Many physicists think "obviously, yes!", but that confidence is built on lots of untested assumptions.

My book, "Do Aliens Speak Physics?" unpacks those assumptions and makes a lot of dad jokes.
