Canadian Chemist Crystallographer...dammit, there isn't a word that starts with C to say I play TTRPGs, is there? Anyway, not a geek in a can, despite the name. Am a geek though. they/she
you're a lying bastard
10.08.2025 10:36 โ ๐ 80 ๐ 8 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Like, it used to just be stock responses like 'Thank you' or 'You're welcome', which is fine, I guess. It saves a couple of seconds on something you were going to write anyway.
But these more elaborate replies. Bad. Awful. Hate them. Stop surrendering your thinking to a computer.
Which I think ties into the whole reason a lot of people like talking to AIs. They are not made to challenge you, they're made to fulfill your every whim, to be servile.
And I don't appreciate YouTube trying to place that kind of relationship with random fuckhead #227 onto me. It's gross.
Hey, who turned out the lights?

The Judaeans mustโve had a blast hearing the Romans say โAve Caesar.โ
In Hebrew, it would mean: โDesire Caesar!โ
Now is a good time to revisit construction of a #Corsi-RosenthalBox air filter.
"The Corsi-Rosenthal Box is an affordable DIY air-cleaning system made with simple materials found in hardware stores. The box fan pulls air through the filters on the sides and blows out clean air."
I feel that these spinning on every rotation is just a little unnecessary

My hobby is modding Skyrim/Fallout4, get 10 hours into a save then download/remove more mods forcing me to start over, get 10 hours into that save and repeat forever until I die.

Black-and-white photograph showing a large formation of soldiers standing in aligned rows on a flat open field, with several individuals positioned in front of the group. In the background, numerous conical tents are arranged in rows extending into the distance, accompanied by scattered small groups of people, a few vehicles including a car and horse-drawn carts, utility poles, and hazy hills or mountains on the horizon.
Valcartier Camp was also created about 20 kilometres outside Quebec City. The CNR established daily passenger service directly from Toronto, Ottawa and Quebec. Within a few weeks, 32,000 men had gathered at the camp to begin training.

Black-and-white photograph showing a dense crowd of men, mostly wearing military uniforms with peaked caps, some carrying rifles or bags, standing and walking along a gravel-covered railway platform between two parallel trains under a long overhead canopy supported by arches. A steam locomotive is positioned at the front of the left train, with passenger cars extending into the distance where more people and industrial structures are visible.
Hundreds of men signed up every day in the cities across the country. Most regiments filled their quotas for soldiers within only a few days. Companies such as Eaton's also pledged to keep a soldier's job safe until they returned from the war.

Also on Aug. 5, Capt. Andrew Hamilton Gault organized a new military unit by offering $100,000. That unit would be created five days later and was called the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. I will have a long post about the unit on Sunday.

Colonel Sam Hughes, the Minister of Militia, also announced that Canada would have 20,000 men ready from the reserves and militia. He also stated there were 100,000 offers from men across the country to enlist to fight in the war.

Rumours also swirled around Canada. The Saskatoon Daily Star reported that the Germans were shelling Glace Bay in Nova Scotia. This was not the case at all.
The day after war was declared, Canada also bought two torpedo boats from Chile.

Black-and-white image of a newspaper front page with the main headline "Germany Beaten, Sea and Land" above the subheadline "To 'Capture or Destroy the Enemy'". Below is a photograph of a fleet of warships on the sea, captioned "Britain's Armada Putting Out to Sea. The Flag Ship Iron Duke in the Van." Additional headlines include "Declaration of War is Made by Great Britain and Naval Forces Move", "Victory for British in North Sea", "Belgians Repulse German Invaders Who in Baffle Rage Are Burning Towns---British Fleet at Gibraltar Halter Forced Germans to Seek Escape Eastward---France Wins Naval Victory in Mediterranean.", "Discharged Men a Big Problem Across Border", "Sir John French Commanded the British Army. Will Not Accept Code Words in Any Cable Messages.", and other smaller articles and sidebars about war-related events.
With news spreading on Aug. 5, people began to come out to support the war, but also take vengeance on those they felt were enemies of Canada.
In Vancouver, the German consulate was surrounded by a crowd and attacked. The double-headed eagle above the door was smashed.

The background features numerous conical tents arranged in rows, additional people scattered around, a building on the right, and hills in the far distance.
On Aug. 4, 1914, after Germany refused to withdraw from neutral Belgium, Britain declared war.
Since Canada had dominion status, it entered the war with Britain.
This is the story of Canada's mobilization for the First World War.
