My grandma had two cousins with polio, they were sisters. One died. The other survived, but needed braces on her legs for a long time, and one of her arms had severe dystrophy. I remember meeting her when I was a kid and being told about polio. Didn't complain about my shots after that.

That guy is the worse! I had a criminal justice teacher who was obsessed with him and he'd get so annoyed when I'd point out the psycho doesn't even have real combat experience, and that every soldier I knew who DID wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.

Jonathan Joss was MURDERED.

Words matter here.

He was MURDERED.

it was a HATE CRIME because he is a gay Indigenous man.

Say those words. Do not dance around it. He wasn't "killed in a shooting." He was murdered in a hate crime.

RFK Jr. is very loud and very WRONG about Autism.

1. It’s not a disease
2. There are thousands of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder who pay taxes, have jobs, can use the bathroom on their own, and are thriving in life.

My dad's family were miners in Appalachia. My grandpa remembered his dad being paid in scrip, and spent a chunk of his childhood in Bloody Harlan. His father's back was destroyed by a collapse. One of my grandma's grandpas lost an eye in the mines, the other developed Black Lung. Don't glorify it.

Trump: "One thing I learned about the coal miners -- that's what they want to do. You could give them a penthouse on 5th Avenue and a different kind of a job and they'd be unhappy. They want to mine coal. She was gonna put them in a high tech industry where you make little cell phones and things."

My great-grandpa told my grandpa not to ever go near the mines. He had back problems from a mine collapsing on him, eventually died with nothing. Grandpa joined the Army to get out of the coal camp and eventually retired as a baker. Not a single miner in my family was without injury.

Wouldn't be surprised if he tried to bring back paying in scrip, too. The coal miners in my family worked hard to keep their sons out of the mines because they didn't want that life for them.

Or as troublemakers. My 2nd grade teacher was the first to realize something was amiss. Before that, they thought I was just uncooperative and bratty, often sending me to the hallway to think about what I did--which was just drawing because I hadn't heard the teacher talking.

Not every DHH kid needs SpecEd 🥴 a lot of us did great with 504 plans. This program is still important so that hearing families know their options--including access to sign language.

She's a fellow American, currently in Texas. Funny thing is I'm sending her a bookmark in my reply letter.

I'm using a letter from my penpal 😅 I had checked the mail right before going to the library, and shoved the letter in the book when I got home and didn't want to go looking for a bookmark when I started reading it.

He didn't talk about his childhood much, but I saw why once I learned about "Bloody Harlan" and previous skirmishes in Kentucky and Tennessee that his dad and grandpa lived through. It also explained why, even as a vet himself, he really didn't like the National Guard. It definitely shaped them.

Painfully true. My grandpa adored my grandma and me but rarely said it, he also hated politicians and didn't trust police (son of a coal miner, lived through the 30s coal wars) Other men in my family? They say they love the women in their lives but their actions say otherwise

I ran out of checked-out library books, so I guess I have to read from my shelves. Starting "Letters from the Ginza Shihodo Stationery Shop" tomorrow, continuing my ebook and audiobook.

I curl up so I can rest my books or Kindle on my lap, especially when my hands don't want to work.

My rabbits nudge me. They think if I'm just going to sit and cry, I can at least cry while getting them treats.

That's very pretty yarn! I learned to crochet this month to escape doomscrolling. Making a bookghan this year 😁

Same. Usually I'd sew or knit to relieve stress, but I need to dissociate for a while and TV is not enough to drown out the world.

I'm working on books 10-12 (physical, ebook, audiobook). I haven't read this much this fast since I was a kid trying to escape my dysfunctional homelife 🫠

My oldest uses my Libby for audiobooks. They have a library card, but they couldn't find it when they wanted to log into Libby and now don't want to transfer their wishlist 🙄🤣

As we get into the era of DEI rollbacks and boycotting, I just want to remind you that not everyone can boycott every place- whether that’s due to physical/mental health, socioeconomic status, or location.

Do what you can, when you can. And know what your privileges are.

I love it, makes getting books easier and if my kid forgets their books at my parents an hour away, one of them can just drop it at their library since it's in the same system 😁

In Illinois we have the Heartland System, ~250 libraries that work together. Every October a little over half do a library crawl to raise awareness of the benefits, like borrowing books or items from one library and returning them to a different one. It also has an app to request books 😁

BS is still pretty new and not everyone is willing to switch over. I heard they're working on an alternative to IG which might draw more people, though!
