28.04.2025 14:52 โ ๐ 594 ๐ 51 ๐ฌ 79 ๐ 1With more than 27 million pink salmon anticipated to return to Puget Sound and the Fraser River, NW Washington fishers will have plenty of chances to catch fish out in the sea and river. However, salmon processors could be overwhelmed if the projected run materializes.

This impact on fisheries management would be severe if this goes through as planned.

One of the outcomes of Trumpโs chaos is that we are all learning how many important roles federal agencies & employees play.
Honestly we should have had these previews without having to cut the programs first.

I worry that the focus on NOAA's weather predicting value is ignoring the millions of other ways NOAA researchers enrich communities and local economies.
There are no oysters without NOAA. There are no blue crabs without NOAA. NOAA trains teachers. NOAA is the lifeblood of coastal communities.
Day in, day out, U.S. national reporters, clinging to historical traditions, demonstrate their utter inability to deal with spewers of pure propaganda and diversion.

If confirmed, RFK Jr. will be the most powerful cabinet member to hold so many seafood-specific views -- many of them misleading, or downright odd.
The seafood industry was already buckling up for an interesting four years, but it could get even more interesting.

I suppose this is one way for Canadian #salmon and #lobster to avoid tariffs, but I also think it's kind of a bad idea, even if their #seafood industry is taking over the world:

Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, once famously bragged that the takeover of Canada, starting with the province of Quebec, would be โa mere matter of marching.โ Yeah, well -- seafood is different.

It's more than likely Canada, China and Mexico will respond with their own tariffs if #Trump puts his into place. His administration will no doubt be hearing from the senators of #Maine and #Alaska as #lobster, wild #salmon and #whitefish face fresh trade hurdles.
