As I've said elsewhere, in the USA the Democratic Party is the conservative party, and the Republican Party is the fascist party. There is no progressive party—or, at least not one with any significant capacity to affect important elections.

People willing to throw trans liberties away have already handed the right a win in saying there's a gray area to personhood and autonomy.

Personally, I support ending not only the penny but also the hundreth decimal place of a dollar entirely. That said, such changes have to be phased in carefully so that systems can be adapted. Instead, like always, Trump just does things according to his whim of the day.

Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom, who seems to be gearing up to run for president, engages in policies against the homeless and transgender folk—platitudes denying this notwithstanding. If the Democratic Party cannot do better than that, then it will keep losing progressives.

Then again, the mental gymnastics it must take to make himself believe that Trump's demented ravings make some sort of sense must be very taxing—especially when he has to try to publicly proclaim his support of said ravings in a way that doesn't make him sound like a duckspeaking sycophant.

I think this really sums up a lot of dystopian fiction. Hey, what if this shit that has been happening to marginalized people for centuries suddenly started happening… to us!?

Personally, I'm not assuming the midterms will take place. If they do, they will be even less "free" and "fair" than recent elections.

Being raised religious means being raised to believe without questioning. I raised my kids with the maxim that, if a belief is valuable to them, then they should do everything they can to disprove it—if the belief is worth holding, they will fail to disprove it.

It would be rather difficult to do what they do and to believe that doing bad things could send one to hell. But I suppose that sufficient inculcation might work overcome that obstacle.

There are plenty of right-wing nonreligious people. However, in my own post-theism case, no longer able to avoid thinking by saying something is the will of god or what the bible says, I had to rely on evidence based reasoning, which shifted me dramatically to the left.

I am not opposed to "God" any more than I am opposed to Grendel, Morgoth, Apophis, or any other fictional monster: they don't exist—they never existed.

I am opposed to religions because they have a propensity to turn people into real monsters.
