Cameo, the marketplace connecting fans directly with tens of thousands of pop culture personalities in the form of personalized video messages, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging trademark infringement, trademark dilution, and unfair competition relating to the unauthorized use of Cameo’s trademark. In the Complaint, Cameo alleges that OpenAI knowingly selected the name “Cameo” for a new feature within its Sora iOS app that allows users to make short, personalized, AI-generated videos that can include celebrities. Cameo alleges that in so doing, OpenAI is likely to cause consumer misunderstanding, dilute the brand’s identity, and mislead the public into believing the products or services are associated with or endorsed by Cameo.

In a real “let them fight” moment, Cameo has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI for creating a function in Sora that fakes personalized celebrity videos called… Cameo.
