along with some other stuff that didnt age well, like the whole breeding obsession and things like that, but still, it was really solid story plot-wise, and I'm lifelong Morgana apologist, so losing this was not pleasant

for me it was MZB. Mists of Avalon is a book made for teens socialized as girls who are into witchy things, sigh. at least when I learned about whole thing, I was old enough to rething it more critically and get a spell broken a bit by how much proto gender essentialism was in this book

Star trek meme with two pictures of klingon K'mpec from TNG episode "reunion". On first image, he's waving his palm next to his face, and on second he's taking a sip of wine from a cup. Caption reads "mispronounced words are honorable. it means you read it in a book somewhere."

that's so very true
we're finally getting past incredibly bland book covers from 2000s (at least in Poland, many new sff books here have strikingly beautiful covers), but a little Whelan or pantless galore from Frazetta, or psychedelic fever dream landscapes with fireflies couldn't hurt

my local used bookstore's cat is named Melania and every time I encounter mentions of the other Melania I think how deeply unfair it is to this humble honest hard working book vendor

we only have one other photo of him, and it's a small group photo that's overexposed and his face is not visible (I do like it tho, because it's very candid one and a reminder that he lived a life)

this thread reminded me about time I regretted not being good at translating poetry when I was posting one of my older art that's inspired by Jasnorzewska poem and I wanted to include it for context. I actually found the translation, but it was bad one.

Scann of three black and white prison photos (profile, en face and 3/4) of a white man in his forties, with short dark hair and dark eyes, wearing stripped shirt. There's Auschwitz prison number plaque on photo on the left. image has Auchwitz museum archive watermark at the bottom.

This is my great grandfather Maksym, whose surname I took when I was changing my legal name. He was murdered on December 4, 1942. I'm thinking about him today.

it's just. so on brand. the amount of times I made a post on tumblr asking for specific thing and gotten aswers recommending me he exact thing I said I *don't* want, sigh. reading comprehention is a skill.

seriously tho, sometimes tumblr brand of storytelling/retellings is depressingly... uuhm, set on autopilot. like, there are few scripts and most people just apply them to anything and call it a day, sigh

<goes to have a look> people who wanted witches to be main characters should know that there's a book about that already. Terry Pratchett wrote it.

It is so frustrating to see things trans woman (& other minorities) have said for years finally being said by cis people who act like it’s a revelation, all while still attacking us for being too radical, and knowing they will ultimately use the power we have now to recuperate a failed status quo.

All The Little Angels

This piece from Sir Terry Pratchett's "Night Watch" book. I didn't know a composer had set it to music.

The book is a gut punch. This piece is a gut punch. And right now? Yeah.

@rhi.bsky.social I'm sure you've heard this?

and I guess putting on half-baked generic 'solid shape' wihout details when they're out and about openly as themselves could be a way to show their disdain for soilids

I like to think that they were doing it as part of their quest to convince Odo to ditch solids and come back to great link, so they put on Odo-like face as 'look you finally found your own people, see, we're just like you' performance

oh gods
the worst I have to deal with is that few times my packages ended up in apt 85 (I like in 185). first time it happened, people there called our reception desk and asked them to call me instead of calling me o intercom themselves, it was very weird

also teenage artists decided then that wearting coats inside is fashionable now and we continued to do it until spring, even when heating was restored, teachers kinda hated it but gave up trying to fight it really soon

I just remembeed that time when my high school funding was so low heating has been cut off but classes contuinued, to everyone's dismay. we were wearing coats and hats inside, such fun, especially in sculpture class

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste

oh, that's a HUGE difference. how huge? uhm, I once mistaken a hare for a deer. granted, I didn't have my glasses on, but I'm only -1. hares are no joke.

A four-panel comic titled "how to get into nature". In panel 1, a person kneels in the woods, looking down at a red-backed salamander, and the text says "notice a living thing." In panel 2, the text says "notice some other things that live near it," and there's a starflower, springtail, ant, little wood satyr butterfly, and salamander on the leaf litter. In panel 3, covered in creatures, plants, and a colorful starburst, the text says "Notice the connections between them, discover the wider ecosystem, learn about its histories, and find yourself following links from bedrock to stratosphere, between biotic and abiotic, at scales both microbial and massive, until you’re hopelessly overwhelmed by the wonder of it all." In panel 4, the text says "Fall into a daze and let moss engulf you." The person from the first panel is still kneeling in the woods, looking happy as moss slowly engulfs them, and they're saying "This is for the best."
