Griffin concedes NC Supreme Court race, ending unprecedented effort to overturn election Griffin’s concession puts to bed a contentious and chaotic saga in NC politics, one that has raised substantial questions about democracy and may impact the state’s elections for years to come.

The chapter about the 1974 election is my favorite in the book, so it's exciting that others are now paying attention to it as well (although my last name is spelled Summey).

Today I finished my 1st year at Salem College. The status is low (adjunct). The pay is, well, bad. But I had convinced myself that my strengths as a historian were outside the classroom - that I just wasn’t a great professor. But Salem (the oldest school for women in the U.S.) is my perfect fit.

DOGEd (verb) - To unnecessarily and cruelly eliminate necessary funding, jobs, & government agencies.
In a sentence - “Children are going to die b/c they won’t receive life-saving services after USAid was DOGEd.” OR “The fascist regime has DOGEd NEH funding & wants to dictate how history is taught.”

I think I speak for a lot of historians when I say to the President & his supporters, try & stop us. We won’t stop teaching it, studying it, & speaking the truth.

Let’s make one thing clear: Black history is not an ancillary part of U.S. history. It IS U.S. history. It is foundational. It is understanding WHO built our nation. The administration can attack Smithsonians & attempt to dictate American history. But it won’t change the uncomfortable truth.

Today I was honored to celebrate Black History Month at the NC Supreme Court with some of my favorite jurists and North Carolinians to discuss Judge Elreta Alexander’s legacy.

I’ve tried SO HARD to have a relationship with a family member (I don’t have a lot of close extended family) & over the past few weeks their Christian nationalist side has come out HARD. I’m just heartbroken. I’ve had no problems letting go of other family - this one is just so hard for some reason.

In light of history being removed from other gov’t websites, is there any guidance as to teaching students how to navigate the National Archives and Library of Congress websites for research? I’m assuming certain information will be scrubbed.

I mean, if it were Duke’s mayo maybe I’d get it.
