Well there is always the notion that renewed success is right around the corner. Understandably so, because in modern football money almost always wins in the end.

Financial advantage may not be permanent. More seasons of no CL-money. Brand increasingly associated with wastefulness and buffoonery, more so than success (and under INEOS, a certain kind of cheapness and mean-spiritedness). At what point does that to affect their much vaunted commercial operation?

With United, assumption has always been that because they have so much money they will eventually get good again. But what if they just... don't?
