Asked for comment by Sky News, the IDF responded: "Earlier today, IDF troops identified two suspects who crossed the yellow line, conducted suspicious activities on the ground, and approached IDF troops operating in the southern Gaza Strip, posing an immediate threat to them. "Following the identification, the IAF eliminated the suspects in order to remove the threat."

They were 8 and 11 years old

When a reporter noted that some initiative groups argue that they’re using ballot questions as a law-making avenue because the Legislature hasn’t acted, Mariano mentioned there had already been a statewide vote on rent control, as well as a 2020 vote by House lawmakers who rejected the policy. (On the statewide vote, he apparently meant the one in 1994, which banned rent control. Another reporter noted she was not yet born when that vote occurred.)

It shows how out of touch House Speaker Ron Mariano is that he acts like 1994 was just a few years ago.

One thing that is tough about rapid response/patrols, besides constantly being threatened by armed secret police, is that for the most part they see the defeats. There are exceptions, but you’ll never know how many people were saved by slowing feds down, whistles, community alerts, etc.

What happened in Room 22? For a month, seven people held Sam Nordquist captive in a small hotel room, torturing him to death, authorities say. How did it go on in secret?

Tomorrow is Trans Day of Remembrance. Every year on TDOR, trans people lost to homicide and violence are remembered at memorials around the country and around the world.

But the story of Sam Nordquist, a young trans man who was tortured and killed this year, has haunted me like no other.

On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the trans people lost to violence in the U.S. this year.

Widespread poverty, homelessness, and discrimination makes trans people 4x more likely to experience violence than the average person.

We shouldn’t have to live in fear to be who we are.

The gravamen of this dispute is whether Demirel’s detention is mandatory under INA § 235(b) (8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)) or discretionary under § 236(a) (8 U.S.C. § 1226(a)). “The vast majority of courts confronting this precise issue have rejected [the Government’s] interpretation, and the BIA’s interpretation in Hurtado, as contradictory to the plain text of § 1225.” Ayala Amaya v. Bondi, No. 25-16429, 2025 WL 3033880, at *2 (D.N.J. Oct. 30, 2025) (collecting cases). Once again, of the 288 district court decisions to address the issue, 282 have determined that § 1226(a) applies or likely applies in situations similar to those presented here. See Appendix. Those decisions are plainly correct.

What's going with habeas and ICE kidnappings is a perfect example of what I mean when I say courts won't save us.

Recently, ICE/the BIA made up a rule, saying nearly everyone ICE kidnaps is subject to "mandatory detention" (ie, no bail/bond).

282 out of 288 of judges to hear habeas cases disagree.

It's hard for me to determine which huge takeaway from this article is most stupendous

@sanders.senate.gov and @warren.senate.gov and @markey.senate.gov should tell any Senator considering a cave that they'll happily host stadium stops with @aoc.bsky.social and any other rising star that wants to primary them in their districts if they can't hold the line for people's basic needs.

Without LGBT New Yorkers, Cuomo might’ve won. Mamdani’s genuine and relentless support of trans rights was not only morally correct, but an electoral necessity.

this is such a great encapsulation of why this race feels existential even to people outside NYC. Cuomo as the final boss of everything wrong with the current Democratic Party, Mamdani happily grabbing the third rails everyone’s told are too dangerous to touch (trans people, Muslims, socialism)

Shutdown is very uncomplicated. Trump & Republicans will starve 42 million Americans unless Democrats agree to kick 20+ million Americans off of any healthcare insurance. Kicker is that Republicans intend to do both, regardless of what Democrats choose to do at this particular hostage situation.

As the feds seem to move farther from "targeted enforcement" by ICE to broader terror tactics from CBP, vigilance and resistance will be ever more effective in protecting our communities.

It is absolutely necessary from a moral standpoint to engage in these acts of resistance and others, and as citizens it is on us to use that contained risk profile. Let it embolden us as we act to protect our neighbors. Every action slows their illegal terror, and inspires courage in others.

4) Increasing the stress and friction on their operations can get you beat down and temporarily detained, but it does hamper ICE/CBP and slow down abductions. This is good.

It doesn't appear that anyone is being convicted by juries on charges related to ICE ops. The risk is contained.

3) The whistles and honking and community alerts work! The agents are described as being "afraid" of the attention, and trying to actively avoid areas that are "hot", i.e. have residents on alert for them.

This is worthwhile. Keep them uncomfortable and moving along.

They very much do not want to get in engagements where they are outnumbered or where the community is already on alert. They require either surprise or overwhelming force, or both. So stay alert and ready to whistle/record/confront! You can deter abductions this way.

2) By keeping the kidnapped residents in the car with them for hours, we get a good look into the agents thoughts and methods. Note that they were not engaging in any targeted enforcement, but just looking for opportunities to cause mayhem and conduct abductions.

Doing this would be scary and require local PD to take on risk as part of protecting their towns!

But honestly, I can't think of any better way for a PD to repair trust w neighbors and demonstrate a reason for their existence. More courage was shown by neighbors in Evanston than by the EPD. 4/?

Hazardous driving is a community safety issue. With unmarked vehicles, local PD has no reason to NOT stop the vehicles and request the drivers to identify themselves, even if they can't cite.

I don't have high hopes of it happening, but a local PD *could* do this to help their towns. 3/?

1) Erratic driving by agents caused an accident, getting rear-ended by a car that *was not involved* in following them. They then continued to drive in a way to instigate conflicts with random citizens. This is obviously bonkers dangerous, but *should* be something local PDs could BOLO.

I make an annual pilgrimage. Tresca's is one of the few good reasons to leave Somerville.
