How was this photo taken/edited? It looks good but also weirdly like itโ€™s a rendering of something and not actually taken IRL? Something just feels off about it.

Also, itโ€™s an opinion piece by somebody who is notably not Sen. Cassidy and contains very little things that actually came from him. The whole piece is predominantly โ€œ[action], [result of action], [why this guy who clearly doesnโ€™t care should feel bad about himself]โ€

The article doesnt state at all that Cassidy himself feels sorry? It just kinda says that he should feel that way but then also says that now heโ€™s just doubling down in a sense anyways. If anything it seems like this article is kinda advertising for him and also sane-washing to a large extent.

What are you on about? I take the MBTA daily and while it sure ainโ€™t optimal, it functions better than transit in most of the US, and works well enough that you can rely on it pretty consistently, especially in the Boston proper.

How? Biking can and should be a complement to public transit systems all the time. In fact, if anything we should be encouraging bikeability and walkability in tandem with maintaining the transit system because it reduces the pressure on it while still diverting people from cars.

If the Mafia (and dysfunction surrounding it) wonโ€™t allow a bridge to be built, why would they allow a tunnel to be built??

if I remember correctly, cormorants are one of the few waterbirds whose wings donโ€™t dry off naturally, so they actually have to sit in the sun to dry off (as theyโ€™re doing here).

Iโ€™m fairly sure Discord has a built-in feature for that? I know Snapchat definitely does.

MA (and Somerville particularly) is democratically held at every level of government - no excuses on that front.

Some absolutely amazing stuff going on in Serbia it seems. I understand that the structuring of things there is a bit different from the U.S., but certainly thereโ€™s some things we can carry over?

Iโ€™m trying to process how this would even work. I assume 104>Blue>Orange>32>Fairmount but Iโ€™m very confused where the Green Line fits into that lol.

explain xkcd Explain xkcd is a wiki dedicated to explaining the webcomic xkcd. Go figure.

For the Alt text - thereโ€™s a transcript of each comic at explainxkcd.com, which also includes the title text.

Yeah, I wonder if the MBTA will advertise it a bit more as an airport route b/c it does mean that you can get from most of the inner core to the airport and blue line in a two bus ride (and a pretty short one at that).

01.01.2025 17:33 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah - it was about the same when I took it. Still not the least-busiest of the new routes though, I was talking to a Route 104 driver and he said he had nobody on the bus heading westbound on one of his runs.

Iโ€™ll give you up to NYC. Between NYC and Boston is the New York, New Haven and Hartford, and north of Boston is some Boston & Maine territory. We donโ€™t need no Yankees on our turf!

Ironically the hostel I was taking about here converted into a hotel since I was there lol. I just checked to see how much itโ€™s actually be.

I stayed in one on a school trip in New Orleans (US, so perhaps a bit different) seemed nice enough though, and I donโ€™t think Iโ€™d mind going there myself much if it was cheap enough. Of course, being in America there arenโ€™t nearly as many hostels as GB.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says โ€” Streetsblog USA Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikesย and people in cars and on foot, a new studyย of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, itโ€™s actually safer to NOT have them.

Vehicle height compounds dangers of speed for pedestrians New pedestrian injury risk curves calculated by IIHS show that vehicles with taller front ends begin to cause serious injuries at lower speeds.

New studyย from IIHS shows that car bloat is dangerous even at low speeds:

If hit by a sedan goingย 27 mph, a pedestrian has a 60% chance of a moderate+ injury and 30% chance of a serious one.

If it's a pickup going 27 mph, those odds rise to 83% and 63%, respectively.

This is exactly how a bike lane network should be conceptualizedโ€ฆin the same design language and typology of that cityโ€™s public transportation network and with connectivity to subways, busses, LRT etc.

Once again, Paris is leading the way.

If only Medford had any Christmas tree sales that weren't at the high school - symptomatic of our lack of urban integration of any sort of major commercial areas or schools for that matter.
